2 13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”

3 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

4 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16)

9 Christ’s Church With so many churches today claiming to belong to Christ, how can we identify the one He promised?

10 The Church In The Bible One head - Eph. 1:22-23

11 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,  23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. (Ephesians 1)

12 The Church In The Bible One head - Eph. 1:22-23
One body - Eph. 4:4-6; 2:16

13 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;  5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;  6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all. (Ephesians 4) 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.  (Ephesians 2)

14 The Church In The Bible One head - Eph. 1:22-23
One body - Eph. 4:4-6; 2:16 Saved added to it - Acts 2:40, 47

15 40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”  … 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. (Acts 2)

21 21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.”

22 23 So when they had appointed elders in every church, and prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed. (Acts 14)

24 5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you … 7 For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,  (Titus 1)

25 The Church In The Bible One head and Savior, Jesus
One body, the church Saved added to it Universal sense - all the saved Local sense, congregations Bishops & deacons Elders in every church Elders & bishops the same

30 Apostasy Foretold Some will depart - I Timothy 4:1

32 Apostasy Foretold Some will depart - I Timothy 4:1
Itching ears - 2 Timothy 4:2-4

33 2 Preach the word. Be ready in season and out of season
2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.  3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;  4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables (2 Timothy 4)

34 Apostasy Foretold Some will depart - I Timothy 4:1
Itching ears - 2 Timothy 4:2-4 Begin with elders - Acts 20:30-31

35  30 Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.  31 Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears. (Acts 20)

36 Apostasy Foretold Some will depart - I Timothy 4:1
Itching ears - 2 Timothy 4:2-4 Begin with elders - Acts 20:30-31

37 And over time …. One elder elevated over other elders and became “chief” elder Chief elders in an area meet and choose one to be a bishop Bishops from different areas meet and choose one to be archbishop, etc. And finally one chosen to be the earthly head, or pope. Most denominations are similar!

38 There is a huge difference between Christ’s church and the churches of men!

39 Into Christ Baptized into Christ - Galatians 3:26-27

40 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus
