Applicant provides a document, giving main details E.g. personal information, qualifications, job history Often accompanied by a letter of application The application form Applicant fills in a form, with similar details to above Often includes a space for the letter of application

The short list Compare the applicants with the post’s job description and person specification People are ‘shortlisted’ and invited for an interview The interview To judge appearance, confidence, and knowledge A two-way process Second interview for more discussion, testing etc

Checking references Previous employer, to confirm previous work record Social acquaintance, to confirm personal qualities Issuing a contract of employment Name of employer and employee, and the start date Details such as hours, pay, pension, and holidays Length of notice required, by employer and employee Company disciplinary rules
