13 Basic Definition & Goals
Common Ground for Peace Basic Definition & Goals Common Ground for Peace is a partnership-based violence reduction strategy that employs respectful, direct communication with law enforcement and other social service agencies to work to reduce violent crimes and death. Its primary goal is to reduce shootings by providing resources and creating a safe way to connect with our neighbors and community. To intervene a persons relapse into criminal behavior or repeat offences and to improve community and police relations.

14 MEASURING THE IMPACT Over the past two years several of our PICO federations in partnership with many local organizations, city and law enforcement agencies have seen double-digit reductions in gun violence through the implementation of Ceasefire, including: Stockton: 55% drop in fatal shootings and a 40% drop in non-fatal shootings Oakland: 30% drop in fatal shootings Richmond: 60% drop in homicides over the last two years leading to the lowest homicide rate in 33 years Baton Rouge: 33% drop in homicide rates Sacramento: in , the city saw a 70% drop in fatal shootings between two key groups who had been in a cycle of violence for many years High levels of gun violence are concentrated in a relatively small number of neighborhoods and cities. Simply by spreading what we already know works, the federal government has the ability to promote best practices in urban gun violence prevention that would have a significant impact on reducing unnecessary gun deaths in the United States.

15 Common Ground for Peace

16 The Approach Community & civic leadership working together to communicate a powerful anti-violence message would allow a functioning working group as an alliance . Once the alliance is operational it will allow: The use of in-depth qualitative & quantitative data to map local violence to guide & inform intervention efforts. Respectful face-to-face communication with the community and law enforcement to deliver encouraging non violence messages. Message’s power enhanced by (a) providing realistic alternatives to violent lifestyles & (b) focusing enforcement and community strategies in creating a non violent environment by helping high risk individuals from endangering their lives & the community.

17 Summary Points Common Ground for Peace is a communication strategy that draws its strength from the community and law enforcement’s commitment to ending violence as expressed through: Partnership with law enforcement to prioritize violence by creating a taskforce, seeking state and federal funding towards common ground for peace, and maintaining collaboration and partnership. Demonstrate commitment of our peace coalition through peace walks, faith based organizations, community & street outreach that’s gear towards individuals & communities at higher risk of violence. The determination of our social agencies and faith based organizations is to provide credible services & support to those individuals who can benefit from them.

18 Core operational capacities
These are the capacities needed to implement and sustain the strategy: Community, faith base organizations, and law enforcement agencies in creating a safer environment to reduce violent crimes and death.
