What is Health and Safety?
Health:- the protection of the bodies and minds of people from illness resulting from the materials, processes or procedures used in the workplace.
Safety:- the protection of people from physical injury
Why is H&S important?
Ultimately so we can all return home safe each night
Individuals have a responsibility for the H&S of themselves and those around them
UoL has a duty of care to students, staff, visitors and others affected
Legal, moral and financial reasons

8. Fire Safety Faculty of Environment
The fire alarm is a continuous alarm.
If you hear this alarm you should immediately evacuate the building by the nearest exit.
If you are teaching/ supporting teaching you should ensure that all the students leave the lecture venue.
Do not stop to collect personal belongings.
Do not use the lifts.
Do not re-enter the building until told it is safe to do so by a fire warden.
Assembly points are outside the building at a safe distance.
If you discover a fire, raise the alarm and evacuate

9. First Aid Electrical Safety Faculty of Environment
First Aid boxes can be found at various locations
Notices of First Aiders.
All Accidents and Incidents must be reported via the online reporting system
Electrical Safety
All electrical items must be PA tested
Block adapters and certain heaters are not allowed.

10. Risk Assessment Faculty of Environment
You may be asked to read a risk assessment if you go off site as part of your studies – please take note of what you are being asked to do and always follow the instruction of the fieldtrip leader.
You may be asked to complete a risk assessment if:
You carry out work off site (fieldwork)
Your work in a laboratory
You work out of hours
You are involved in activities that pose a risk to you e.g. manual handling
Drop in sessions will be advertised to help you with this.
