Statistics for Casper College In 2007: 80 veterans served Now in 2016: 3354 FTE enrollment for fall 4% of Casper College revenue is from military connected students 314 students are veterans, Service members or families 175 are actively enrolled in Fall 2016 41 use State funding over VA

8 keys to Veteran Success Institution is expressing its commitment to implement the promising practices outlined in the 8 Keys, as follows: 1. Create a culture of trust and connectedness across the campus community to promote well-being and success for veterans. 2. Ensure consistent and sustained support from campus leadership. 3. Implement an early alert system to ensure all veterans receive academic, career, and financial advice before challenges become overwhelming. 4. Coordinate and centralize campus efforts for all veterans, together with the creation of a designated space for them (even if limited in size). 5. Collaborate with local communities and organizations, including government agencies, to align and coordinate various services for veterans. 6. Utilize a uniform set of data tools to collect and track information on veterans, including demographics, retention, and degree completion. 7. Provide comprehensive professional development for faculty and staff on issues and challenges unique to veterans. 8. Develop systems that ensure sustainability of effective practices for veterans.

The Principles of Excellence Implemented through a collaboration between the Departments of Defense, Education, and Veterans Affairs (VA), the Principles of Excellence are guidelines for educational institutions receiving funding from the VA. 1. Provide students with a personalized form covering the total cost of an education program. 2. Provide educational plans for all military and Veteran education beneficiaries. 3. End fraudulent and aggressive recruiting techniques and misrepresentations. 4. Accommodate Service members and Reservists absent due to service requirements. 5. Designate a point of contact to provide academic and financial advice. 6. Ensure accreditation of all new programs prior to enrolling students. 7. Align institutional refund policies with those under Title IV, which governs the administration of federal student financial aid programs.

Veteran’s Club Established 2011 The mission of Casper College Veterans Club is the empowerment of individual student veterans, service members, and their families in order to foster collective success and perpetuate positive campus and community interactions. Membership is open to students, faculty, staff and alumni of both Casper College and UW Partner with more than 6 veterans service organizations in Wyoming

VA Work Study To receive VA Work-study benefits, the student must be receiving benefits under one of the following education programs: Title 38, USC, Chapter 30: The Montgomery GI Bill Title 38, USC, Chapter 31: Veterans Vocational Rehabilitation Program Title 38, USC, Chapter 35: Survivors and Dependence Educational Assistance Program Title 10, USC, Chapter 1606: The Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve Title 10, USC, Chapter 1607: Reserve Educational Assistance Program Title 38, USC, Chapter 33: Post 9/11 GI Bill The student MUST be at least a three-quarter time student in a VA approved school. If a question should arise whether a school is VA approved, call and speak to an education representative.

VA Work Study Job Description Assist in developing a supportive center where student veterans can receive information, resources and services to assist their transition to, retention at, and eventual graduation from Casper College by means of gatherings for academics, socialization & exchanging ideas, etc. Coordinate annual center programming and services to students. Maintain center facilities, library, and resources daily/weekly. Assist with a periodic newsletter and marketing for programs and services. Serve as a peer advisor to users in the center. Collaborate with other departments and student organizations on joint programming to promote student learning. Work as part of a team of staff in other neighboring centers. Maintain strict confidentiality. Keep appropriate personal and professional boundaries as a staff member in conduct on and off the job and in conversations with no gossip or discussions about work/others in the center as public space. Perform other clerical and programmatic tasks as assigned.

AmeriCorps VISTA SECond Mission with Campus Compact of Mountain West Campus Compact Mission: Develop civically engaged students; address local challenges through community-based service, research & learning; expand campus & community partnerships Founded 1985 Wyoming joined in 2013 Coalition of 22 higher education institutions in the region Vista’s Goal for :To ensure that veteran students receive the education, support, and access to resources that they need to be successful at Casper College. The VISTA member will build capacity for outreach at Casper College by developing training for faculty and staff in working with veterans and a peer-mentoring program for veterans to establish connections and support structures.

Student Veterans of America Established at CC in 2015 In 2014 SVA grew from 900 chapters to almost 1200 chapters. Mission: To provide military veterans with the resources, support, and advocacy needed to succeed in higher education and following graduation.

P*A*V*E CC 2016 The Mission of the Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE) Program is to support veterans transitioning to college after military service to foster academic and personal success. First year at Casper College! Currently serving veterans on 42 U.S. campuses “ According to a RAND Corporation survey conducted with college students in November 2010, student veterans face the following challenges: 42% reported moderate or major problems finding like-minded peers or staff; 66% reported moderate or major problems financially supporting self or family; 56.0% reported moderate or major problems balancing coursework and other responsibilities; and 55% reported moderate or major problems coping with service related injury or disability. (RAND Corporation, “Military Veterans’ Experience Using the Post-9/11 GI Bill and Pursuing Postsecondary Education”, Steele, Salcedo, and Coley, November 2010).”
