Year 2 Parent Teacher Workshop Reading Comprehension

KS1 English Reading Comprehension
We do not move children up a reading level until the understanding is secure at their current level. Comprehension is all about the child’s understanding of the text that they are reading. These questions might involve : Predicting, Retelling and Inferring. All of these question types require the children to search in the print for details to provide as answers. The most advanced questions are inference styles ones which involve reading between the lines and deducing from the text.

KS1 English SATS PAPERS English reading
Greater emphasis on comprehension. Each test incudes a selection of unrelated texts of increasing difficulty A mixture of 2 text types. 1 with text and questions combined. 1 more challenging test with the questions in a separate booklet Please refer to KS1 SATS as ‘special work’ or ‘superstar work’ to make it more child friendly for our pupils.

Activities Group 1: Look at extracts from the papers, label the different questions with sticky notes for whether you think they are literal questions or inference questions. See if you can answer them yourselves. Group 2: Reading Comprehension Independent Group 3 and 4: Guided Group: try to answer the comprehension questions by finding the answers in the text.

KS1 English SATS PAPERS In addition to the Reading 1 and Reading 2 papers. There is a Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling Test. Separate Spelling Test.
