WEEE Collection Sources

After collection, WEEE are transferred to a sorting facility in Nicosia where they are sorted in six categories. After sorting, the several WEEE categories are sent for treatment to WEEE management facilities. Lamps are collected separately and are not transferred to the sorting facility. They are transferred directly to the management company where they are crashed and send for recycling in UK.

Major problems we face WEEE are illegally collected and sold to scrap metal dealers Two WEEE management facilities that cooperate with the system are also scrap metal dealers Ministry of environment does nothing to stop this illegal treatment of WEEE Not all producers are registered as members of the system
