1 What’s New in the XI R2 Productivity Suite?
Paul Schmerold – Business Objects

2 Simpler Ways to Answer Complex Business Questions
Issue Solution Large amounts of data and many reports make it difficult to find specific information Find information easily with search Deliver powerful, cost effective OLAP analysis Analysts have specific OLAP requirements, but must increase cost Huge variety of opportunities to use BI but must be part of how people work BI in any application, including Microsoft Office Copyright © 2006 Business Objects S.A. Solution 1 Find information easily with search “Estimates are that information workers spend as much as 30 percent of their time searching for information, at a cost of $18,000 each year per employee in lost productivity” Bill Gates Copyright © 2006 Business Objects S.A. All rights reserved.

4 Secure, Smart Search Of The Reports and Metrics You Want

Solution 2 Deliver powerful, cost effective OLAP analysis “Analysts spend 51% of their time just searching for data for standard reports” Answerthink Copyright © 2006 Business Objects S.A. All rights reserved.

6 Why Introduce New OLAP Capabilities?
Introducing Voyager Need to meet the specific needs of analysts OLAP Requirement Solution Reporting from OLAP data sources Crystal Reports Ad hoc questions and interactive reporting on OLAP data sources Web Intelligence with OLAP universes To meet the specific needs of these users – business or financial analysts – we are introducing a new tool – BusinessObjects Voyager. There are basically three requirements for the use of OLAP data that our customers outline to us The use of OLAP datasources for production or enterprise reporting. This is where Crystal Reports is used to report directly off these data sources Ad hoc query, analysis and interactivity from OLAP data sources for mainstream users. Here the Web Intelligence OLAP universes are used to expose OLAP data sources to self service or casual, interactive users These two requirements represent the majority of users in an organization 3. Finally there are those users who need truly powerful, direct access to OLAP datasources – deep slicing and dicing of large scale multi-dimensional OLAP Data sources. This is the user requirement that Voyager is designed to address – with a focus completely on analyst workflows Analyst OLAP front end Voyager Copyright © 2006 Business Objects S.A. 7 Powerful Data Exploration for Analysts
Meet analysts requirement for OLAP access as part of a complete OLAP strategy Provide all the data that analysts need in one place with full range of sources Find the specific information you need through fast search based member selection The first of those analyst requirements to provide powerful data exploration as part of that complete OLAP strategy by providing all the data an analyst requires in one place. This includes the ability to bring together data from different data sources all in once place – for example bringing together Essbase data alongside data from SAP BW. We have also focused on the customer feedback that to make the process of answering business questions as simple as possible, it was necessary to focus on their workflows – how they explore the data. A great example of responding to this is the ability to search through the members of a hierarchy (often a very long list in OLAP data sources) using a search. Copyright © 2006 Business Objects S.A. Solution 3 Give users access to information in any application environment, including Microsoft Office “It’s more clever to be simple” Paul Bennet : Creative Director Ideo The final solution or rather opportunity that we are going to be able to take advantage of is the fact that we are now able to deliver information to users in which ever environment they want or need it – any application or process, including Microsoft Office. This will allow you our customers to take the value that you have created in your bi deployments and extend that anywhere that it is needed while maintaining the trust, accuracy and security you need. (Quote is from Paul Bennet from Ideo, and industrial design organization who helped create the Palm 5 hand held, a truly innovative product that not only provide advanced functionality but did so in a simple to use way, esnuring user adoption. This is what we are achieving with these new capabilities – the bI information users need, wherever they need so that its simple to access and simple to deploy. Copyright © 2006 Business Objects S.A. 9 Simple and Secure Information in Microsoft Office
Integrate trusted BI for all Office users Simple access to new information directly within Office Access Web Intelligence report parts in Office and dashboards Deploy Live Office in more ways, including Extranets Lets look at Microsoft Office as a great example of how we are making is simple for people. In this release we will be making available a new version of Live Office that will deliver simple and secure information within Microsoft Office for all users – any user of Microsoft Office, not only Office 2007 users, whether they are inside or outside the organization. This version will provide the ability to directly access new information within Microsoft Office (until now users accessed data in the form of report parts via existing Crystal Reports or via raw data from Web Intelligence reports). This will be delivered with a new query panel that conects to Business Objects universes, directly within Live Office. As I mentioned earlier, until now users could only get access to raw data within Web Intelligence reports, not the charts and tables that these documents contained. In this release we will be making it possible to select a specific chart or table that you want to use in an Office document and import it directly. The work that was done to make this possible also now allows you to include a Web Intelligence report part (table or chart) as an element within a dashboard. The idea of making this capability to all users is also extended by the fact that the new Live Office is based on a web services architecture. This means that users outside the firewall can also take advantage of live, secure bi information within Office documents. For example an insurance company can allow their independent agents to get completely up to date, refreshable data within their weekly reporting PowerPoint presentation, just by updating their Office applications with a small add-in. 10 Deliver BI to Any Application with Query as a Web Service
Publish individual universe queries as standalone web services accessible from anywhere Simple wizard based creation Deliver secure, live data to Crystal Xcelsius The final element of delivering secure trusted information to any environment is the new Query as a Web Service. This capability allows organizations to publish individual queries (for example a specific query of customers purchase history) as web services which can then be consumed by any application that is compatible with web services. The real key element is that this is a simple process, that is wizard driven. From creating the universe connection to selecting the objects to be used to publish the web service. Again this capability respects the security of the XI R2 platform and will personalize the results delivered via the web service to the user concerned. We already have customers using the capability in product systems – specifically integrating the web service with Crystal Xcelsius. NOTE: Until release of the Productivity Suite this is a labs product and can only be supported via a custom support contract with global services Copyright © 2006 Business Objects S.A.
