Leonov is well known for his EVA and near-fatal encounters on the Voskhod 2 flight, and his artistic skills, but less so for his other brushes with death
Leonov survived drowning when his car skidded and plunged into a deep ice-covered lake where he pulled his wife and driver to safety
He also survived an assassination attempt on Premier Brezhnev when their car was ambushed, killing the driver
