Preliminary meta-research When you research a matter totally unknown to you, then starting could be tricky. Find an expert! Always a good idea, but It may be hard to find an expert because you do not know what type of expertise you need Luckily you are taking this workshop and you will learn that whenever you need to research mergers, these are the best databases: Strategize: If you want primary sources, What type? What do you expect to find? Where would you go for them? Secondary sources? (same question)

General strategies for finding data
1. Search the literature for references to data sources used for similar research 2. Think about who would be most likely to have created/collected the data. (Also important: why would they collect the data?) 3. Would the data be freely available or could it be proprietary? 4. Does it exist in an easily manipulated format or is it only available in print sources?

Web CEIC data manager [electronic resource] CEIC Data contains economic, industrial and financial time-series data and cover over 60 countries. Data comes from analysts on the ground and the prime national and regional statistical agencies and major industrial data issuing organizations of each country covered. The CEIC Data Manager provides access to the entire CEIC database from within the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet application. Times-series can be directly retrieved from the database and imported into Excel for quick analysis. Global financial data [electronic resource] Global Financial Data is a collection of financial and economic data provided in ASCII or Excel format.
