Year 3: Why should I eat my peas and greens?
Wow: Pupils to have opportunities to consider questions to ask a school cook about healthy lunch/healthy eating. Trips: trip to a Croydon market to get fresh ingredience to prepare the food for a healthy tea party for parents. Outdoor learning: planting vegetables, cooking on fire- Forest School and trip to a local market NC – Science Healthy eating WOW: Visit from a school cook to discuss a healthy lunch. Children will prepare the food and organise a healthy tea party for parents. They will have a mini junior bake off. LC1 What is a healthy balanced diet? LC2 What happens to our chips after we swallow them? LC3 What muscles and joints do we use to eat? LC4 How can we create a movement that combines six different balances? LC5 Geacometti - can you recreate the different positions bolt uses from on your marks to go? LC6 Can you be the next junior master chef? LC7 Reflection – working in groups to prepare a healthy meal video presentations of what they have learnt using PowerPoint Presentation or Prezi. Invite parents to a healthy tea party. Computing: Communicate safely on the internet- use J2 Bloggy to create online recipe book. E-Safety: Children will begin to understand that the Internet is used for a very wide range of purposes. Also they will show an awareness of that not all websites provide true information. Literacy Link: Children will have opportunities to Write instructions, recipes and menus. Children will read write their own stories and poems. Numeracy Link: Children will have opportunities to explore mass when measure the ingredience to prepare different foods. They will use add and subtract money using more formal methods to record. Science Link: Healthy eating. Changes in materials . Creative Art Link: Giacometti- research about the artist and his work. Re- create his work on a large scale. Salvador Dali – research the artist. Re-create his work – looking at portraits. Why we shouldn’t eat chips every day?
Year 3: Science, Art and Computing Science Art Computing Can they describe what it means to reverse a change? Can they describe which changes can be reversed? Can they describe which changes cannot be reversed? Can they explain the importance of a nutritious balanced diet? Can they describe how nutrients, water and oxygen are transported within animals and humans? Can they describe and explain the skeletal system of a human? Can they describe and explain the muscular system of a human? Can they use mosaic? Can they use montage? Can they use the printed images they take with a digital camera and combine them with other media to produce art work? Can they use IT programs to create a piece of work that includes their own work and that of others (using web)? Can they use the web to research an artists or style of art? Can they compare the work of different artists? Can they explore work from other cultures? Can they review images on a camera and delete unwanted images? Have they experienced downloading images from a camera into files on the computer? Can they use photo editing software to crop photos and add effects? Can they manipulate sound when using simple recording story boarding? Can they search by keyword using a child friendly search engine? Can they bookmark a page into your favourites? Can they contribute to a class blog? Year (Challenging) Can they explain how the muscular and skeletal systems work together to create movement? Year 3: Why we shouldn’t eat chips every day?
LC1 What is a healthy balanced diet? LC2 What happens to our chips after we swallow them? 1.Show children a video on school dinners – What do they think about their school meals? Given children a plate for them to design their own healthy school dinner as well as writing any information that they already know on the topic. 2. Children will have the opportunity to ask their own questions surrounding the topic ‘Why shouldn’t we each chips every day? 3. Children will have time to explore the answers to these questions as well as learning new vocabulary and sorting food into their correct food groups. 4. Year 3 will explore the idea of a healthy and unhealthy lifestyle and will present their findings through simile poems. Children will explore the journey food takes once it enters their mouth. In order to do this children will create a fact file giving information on the digestive system and the role that each part plays. Children will put their findings into practice by creating their own digestive system. Year 3 will begin to read Revolting Recipes by Roald Dahl. They will create their own revolting recipes and a write their own shape poems. LC3 What muscles and joints do we use to eat? Year 3 will continue to read Revolting Recipes by Roald Dahl and retell the story in their own words; children will write their own character and setting descriptions. Children will be given the opportunity to explore the characters through role play, hot-seating and performing sections of the book to each other. 3. Children will look at what muscles and joints are used to digest their food and record their information using the My Popplet App. LC4 How can we create a movement that combines six different balances? Children will be introduced to the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We will read up until Charlie enters the factory and then children will be asked to continue the story, making changes to the characters and setting. Once again hot seating and role play will be used. Year 3 will focus on using powerful adjectives and verbs in order to engage the reader. Links to P.E – balance, shape and symmetry. Forest Academy

LC5 Geacometti - can you recreate the different positions bolt uses from on your marks to go? LC6 Can you design a healthy lunch? Visit to Toby Carvery Children will look a the work of Geacometti. They will create their own pieces of life size art work focusing on body movements. Children will look back at what the have learnt about healthy eating and use their knowledge to recreate their own Salvador Dali portraits using fruit and vegetables. Year 3 will use printed images that they have taken to create a collage. They will then have time to reflect upon the artists that have looked at, compare them and discuss their likes and dislikes. Children will be given the challenge to design their own healthy lunch which they will then have to persuade their friends to eat. The journey pupils take to create their healthy lunch will be documented through the J2e Bloggy App. Year 3 will look at what it means to communicate safely on the internet. In preparation for the healthy tea party children will decide what they would like to prepare for their parents and will create a menu. Outdoor Learning to take place. LC7 Reflection – working in groups to make presentations of what they have learnt using PowerPoint Presentation or Prezi. Invite parents to a healthy tea party. 1. Year 3 will put all that they have learnt on display for their parents through a healthy tea party. 2. Children will make fruit kebabs, smoothies, scones, bread and fruit muffins.
