3 Mental Health – the Value of Occupational Therapy
    The COT publication “Recovering Ordinary Lives – the strategy for occupational therapy in mental health services ” finishes soon. It will be replaced in Occupational Therapy Week 2018 with four new documents, one for each of the countries to market and promote the value of occupational therapy in mental health. This is part of the Occupational Therapy – Improving Lives saving money campaign.

4 The COT campaign Occupational Therapy – Improving Lives Saving Money has four strands to date:
Urgent Care – the value of occupational therapy (Nov 2015) Reducing the pressure on hospitals (Nov 2016) Primary care and communities (July 2017) Mental Health – the Value of Occupational Therapy (Nov 2018)

Mental Health – the Value of Occupational Therapy     The project has an External reference group of occupational therapists to steer the work. The documents will use completed stories from the mental health DEMO template. You can find the template here: Any last examples by 30 June 2017!

    We have 100 completed templates so far: Wales Scotland Northern Ireland 8 England 45

7 The four areas where we have examples from across the UK are:
Return to work Keeping adults living independently Dementia support Forensics The three areas where we nearly have examples from across the UK are: Community groups improving independence Addressing physical health Maternal mental health     The two areas where we have nothing: Supporting children's mental health Promotion of mental well-being and prevention

8 Mental Health – the Value of Occupational Therapy
    When we release the documents we would like to provide supporting materials to help you promote the documents and the profession. In the past we have produced, for example, presentations about the documents for occupational therapists and others, letter templates to MPs, quick reference guides, CPD sessions, leaflets, films .

    Discussion time… What do you want to be able to do with the documents? (function) What support do you need from RCOT to do this? (form) Form should follow function!
