17. How is an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) different from English Language Development (ELD)?
ELD is not Special Education
If the student is on an IEP, the ELD Specialist and the Special Education teacher will work together and find the best instruction.

19. What happens when students reach the advanced level?
When a student reaches the advanced level, a team of ELD Specialists review the student’s academic reading, writing, listening and speaking in English.
If the team decides that the student has advanced language, the student stops taking ELD classes.

20. How do we make sure the student is succeeding without ELD support?
For two full school years, the progress of the student will be monitored and reviewed.
If a student is struggling, the school team will determine how to support the student. This may include reentering the ELD program.

21. What are some ways parents can be involved with the school?
Attend school events
Volunteer at the school/home
Chaperone field trips
Join the PTA/PTO/PTSA

22. What are some ways parents can help their student learn?
Ask compelling questions about school
Encourage reading at home
Make sure homework is finished daily
Be connected with the teachers
Encourage Native Language at home!!!
