2. Personal experience with this technology
This presentation is about a product that is still unknow for a lots of nurses, the Omnipod.
Combines 3 different technologies and software's but is very easy to use.
I have a type 1 diabetic husband and he has been using this device & technology for the last 5 years and he is very happy about it.
Many nurses I interacted with and even doctor never seeing one of those and this PowerPoint is to present this technology to my class colleagues that yet have heard or saw this device and how this work.
Doctor’s and nurses were itching their heads on the Hospital last year when my husband had a procedure and we had to educate them about the device. I hope you enjoy it.

3. The Benefits of using the Omnipod
The Pod holds and delivers insulin without tubes attached.
The PDM will program the Pod to deliver customized basal rate(s), as well as calculate a suggested bolus.
The Pod is small, lightweight, and tubeless, so you the patient can wear it with freedom and that includes going to the pool without the need to have it removed like the other pumps.
Software's for Apple and Android are available to download and do updates

The Pod has a waterproof IPX8 rating for up to 25 feet for 60 minutes. The PDM is not waterproof.
IPX7 immersion for IPX7 immersion for 30 minutes at depth up to 3 feet.
Pump is waterproof at 12 feet for 24 hours; Dexcom G4® sensor and transmitter is water-resistant up to 8 feet for 24 hours.

This is how the PDM looks like .
Looks like a pager and is a small transmitter. Patients can usually carry inside a pocket or not even is necessary to be near by if he is not planning to eat.
The PDM technology ,the Pod and the G4 sensor is connected through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Example: If the user eats about 60 grams of carbohydrates, he open the screen and add the amount of carbs he is intaking the device then sends a signal to the Pod and delivers the insulin automatically, easily and painless.

10. The G4 device
This device technology is what monitors the patient blood sugar all day without the need of constant accuchecks.
Once a day only users are recommended to do 1 accuchecks to calibrate the device.
It is very small and can be used in different places just like the Pod.

11. How to activate a new Pod
Assemble the following supplies: Vial of insulin at room temperature (U-100, rapid-acting)
One sealed Pod – PDM – Alcohol prep swab .
Wash Hands
Insert the needle with the insulin already in for 3 days straight down into the fill port on the underside of the Pod. To ensure proper fill, do not insert fill syringe at an angle into the fill port.
Completely empty the syringe into the Pod.
The Pod will beep twice, indicating that the System is ready to proceed.

It’s always recommended to rotate location to avoid lipodystrophy.
Pretty much can be applied in the fatty tissue just like a regular shot of Insulin.

16. The results of this Technology
I can be home or in the car or in school or sleeping and my phone will activate a very loud ambulance noise if my husband blood sugar go bellow a certain level or above.
The patient can set this values and invite family members to follow the blood sugar and in Emergency Case this is a GREAT tool that I make use almost everyday.
During my day I can just click on my Dexcom icon on my cell phone screen and be able to see what my husband blood sugar is at any time, thanks to this Technology.
