The Second Coming “Being born again is mentioned in the Bible 9 times; baptism is mentioned 52 times, repentance is mentioned 89 times… “…But the Second Coming of Christ is mentioned over 1,800 times. If God thought this subject that important, he must have wanted us to do something about it” (Sterling W. Sill, in Conference Report, Apr , 19).

“Prepared as a bride” How many were there? How many were wise?
How many were foolish? How many had oil? How many had enough oil (in vessels?) How many were sleeping when the bridegroom came? What does the oil represent? D&C 45:57

When did you gain your testimony? When were you converted?
“Knowing that the gospel is true is the essence of a testimony. Consistently being true to the gospel is the essence of conversion.” (Elder Bednar, "Converted Unto the Lord" Ensign, Nov. 2012). When did you gain your testimony? When were you converted?

Revelation 19:10

Angels The word angel is used in various ways. A person who is a divine messenger is called an angel (Moroni, John the Baptist, Peter, James, John, Moses, Elijah, and Elias all ministered to Joseph Smith as angels). The scriptures also speak of another class of persons who, because of failure to obey the gospel, will not be exalted and will become angels in eternity. Angels also has reference to the heavenly messengers sent forth to minister to the inhabitants of the earth.
17
Elder Holland “May I suggest to you that one of the things we need to teach our [children], and one of the things which will become more important in their lives the longer they live, is the reality of angels, their work, and their ministry. “Obviously I speak here not alone of the angel Moroni, but also of those more personal ministering angels who are with us and around us, empowered to help us, and who do exactly that.
18
Elder Holland “Perhaps more of us… could literally, or at least figuratively, behold the angels around us if we would but awaken from our stupor and hear the voice of the Spirit as those angels try to speak…. “I believe we need to speak of and believe in and bear testimony to the ministry of angels more than we sometimes do. They constitute one of God's great methods of witnessing through the veil…” CES Symposium on the Book of Mormon • 9 August 1994

“Angels will coach you.”
(Boyd K. Packer, Cleansing the Inner Vessel, October 2010).

“I will go before your face
“I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up” (D&C 84:88).

Elder Enzio Busche At a Christmas social once, I was sitting next to a woman from a recently opened country in Eastern Europe. She was in the west for the first time and was helping with the translation work. She was a convert of a little over a year. She told me about her branch and the poor circumstances they were all living in and how difficult it was for the members to get to their Sunday meetings… These new members could not say enough about the love and the gracious care of the Lord. Then she said, “Once in awhile, we have holy angels visit and comfort and strengthen us.” She added with a smile, “Can you imagine? I have found people in Salt Lake City who have never see an angel.” She laughed as if that were the strangest thing she had ever heard. Yearning for the Living God, p. 234
22
“When messengers are sent to minister to the inhabitants of this earth, they are not strangers, but from the ranks of our kindred, friends, and fellow-beings and fellow-servants... “Our fathers and mothers, brothers, sisters and friends who have passed away from this earth, having been faithful, and worthy to enjoy these rights and privileges, may have a mission given them to visit their relatives and friends upon the earth again, from the divine Presence messages of love, of warning, or reproof and instruction, to those whom they had learned to love in the flesh.” (Gospel Principles, p. 435) Joseph F. Smith
23
Joseph Smith “Enveloped in flaming fire, they [in the spirit world] are not far from us, and know and understand our thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and are often pained therewith.” History of the Church, 6:52
24
Who is the angel that most commonly speaks to us?
25
“The Holy Ghost carrieth it unto the heart…”
2 Nephi 33:1 “The Holy Ghost carrieth it unto the heart…” 2 Nephi 33:1 “When a man speaketh by the power of the Holy Ghost…”
26
Elder David A. Bednar: “Please notice how the power of the Spirit carries the message unto but not necessarily into the heart. A teacher can explain, demonstrate, persuade, and testify, and do so with great spiritual power and effectiveness. Ultimately, however, the content of a message and the witness of the Holy Ghost penetrate into the heart only if a receiver allows them to enter. Learning by faith opens the pathway into the heart” (“Seek Learning by Faith,” Ensign, Sept. 2007, 61). 2 Nephi 33:1
27
Doctrinally speaking, what does the Holy Ghost do for an individual?
28
“The gift of the Holy Ghost adapts itself to all these organs or attributes. It quickens all the intellectual faculties, increases, enlarges, expands, and purifies all the natural passions and affections, and adapts them, by the gift of wisdom, to their lawful use. It inspires, develops, cultivates, and matures all the fine-toned sympathies, joys, tastes, kindred feelings, and affections of our nature. It inspires virtue, kindness, goodness, tenderness, gentleness, and charity. It develops beauty of person, form, and features. It tends to health, vigor, animation, and social feeling. It invigorates all of the faculties of the physical and intellectual man. It strengthens and gives tone to the nerves. In short, it is, as it were, marrow to the bones, joy to the heart, light to the eyes, music to the ears, and life to the whole being” (Parley P. Pratt, Key to the Science of Theology, 61, ).
29
“I do not hesitate to make that statement without modification
“I do not hesitate to make that statement without modification. I know the results will be what I indicate. The Holy Ghost will make you more handsome, young men; more beautiful, young women. The Holy Ghost will make you more dutiful sons and daughters, more clever students, more faithful lovers, more desirable companions, more loyal friends, more helpful members of society, more worthy fathers and mothers of future families, more successfully fulfilling the measure of your creation on earth.” (President David O. McKay, Man May Know for Himself, 108).

Why a horse? Why not a colt/donkey?
Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem Symbol of peace (slow, compared to horses) Ascension takes time (watch out for short cuts). Yes, he will ‘loosen us’ (Matthew 21:2) - meaning he will help us become free of addictions or pains - but after, He will saddle us up. We aren’t freed to be ‘free’ - we are freed to serve Him. What’s the symbol in the praise Jesus received as He rode into Jerusalem? When you see people praising you and complimenting you, don’t think the praises are going to you: they are going to the one riding on you! Let him ride!

Who owns your French fries? Define ‘steward’
“These are MY fries!” Who owns your French fries? Define ‘steward’ Using God-given resources to accomplish God-given objectives. “If my owner were here, what would he do?” Act like the owner. Share his mind. Which of His resources has he given you? It’s on loan. You don’t want to misuse anything God owns…. Legrand Richards story (amputated leg) 1 Peter 4:10. We are blessed to be a blessing to others! Don’t hold on to your froo fries too tightly.

“He comes! The earth shakes, and the tall mountains tremble; the mighty deep rolls back to the north and the rent skies glow like molten brass. He comes! The dead Saints burst forth from their tombs. The ungodly rush to hide themselves from his presence, and call upon the quivering rocks to cover them. He comes! The breath of his lips strikes death to the wicked. His glory is a consuming fire. The proud and rebellious are as stubble; Satan and his dark hosts are taken and bound—the prince has lost his dominion, for He whose right it is to reign has come.’” (Charles Penrose, “Second Advent,” 583, as quoted in the Doctrines of the Gospel Institute Student Manual).
39
“But what will the world do? They will say it is a planet, a comet, etc. But the Son of Man, which will be as the light of the morning cometh out of the east” (Joseph Smith, History of the Church 5:337). “When the Lord comes in his glory, in flaming fire, intense shall be the heat and so universal the burning, the very elements of which this earth is composed shall melt. The mountains, made of solid rock, shall melt like wax. They shall become molten and flow down into the valleys below. The very earth itself, as now constituted, shall be dissolved. And out of it all shall come new heavens and a new earth whereon dwelleth righteousness” (McConkie, Millennial Messiah, 526–27 as quoted in the Doctrines of the Gospel Institute Manual, Second Coming).

3rd Woe – 3rd Appearance To the World
The glory of the Savior’s presence will consume the wicked (see Nahum 1:5–10; D&C 133:41; 5:19). A day and a night and a day without darkness (Zechariah 14:6-7) Clothed in red apparel (see D&C 133:46–48; Isaiah 63:2–3; Revelation 19:11–13). The continents will be moved back together at the Savior’s coming (see D&C 88:87; Revelation 16:18–20;D&C 133:22– 24). The wicked to weep (see D&C 29:15; Isaiah 2:19, 21; Alma 12:14).
41
3rd Woe – 3rd Appearance To the World
Who gets burned? Why burning? Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble.
42
What would pride look like in an LDS home on a Sunday morning before church?
What would pride look like on social media? What would pride look like during a family road trip? What would pride look like in Family Scripture Study? What does pride look like when a calling is extended?

When He Comes Again I wonder, when he comes again, Will I be ready there To look upon his loving face And join with him in prayer? Each day I’ll try to do his will And let my light so shine That others seeing me may seek For greater light divine. Then, when that blessed day is here, He’ll love me and he’ll say, “You’ve served me well, my little child; Come unto my arms to stay.” Words and music: Mirla Greenwood Thayne, 1907–1997 © 1952 by Mirla Greenwood Thayne, Provo, Utah.
