3 Thinking It Through What are your goals?
How much $$ do you need to accomplish those goals? What is your anticipated income (from dues, SOF grants, other sources)? How big is the gap? How will you fill it? Budget for expenses, sales tax, etc. Fundraising is a means to an end.

4 Multifaceted Private Support
Contributions Fundraising Revenue Given by a DONOR Received from a CUSTOMER or SUPPORTER Cash True donations (where the donor receives nothing in return) Auction item proceeds which are significantly greater than the value of the item (thereby showing the donor’s charitable intent) Proceeds from sales Event entry fees Auction proceeds Raffle proceeds Sponsorships In-Kind Items for use in meeting the StudOrg’s mission Free or discounted items for use in fundraising activities

5 Seeking Support Your appeal message, letter, and/or form must be preapproved by the Office of Student Activities in consultation with CSU-Pueblo Foundation. Your list of donor/sponsor prospects must also be preapproved. Approval must occur TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE… sometimes it can take longer… so plan ahead.

7 Fundraising: Are You Ready?
Registered StudOrgs in good standing Written pre-approval Compliance w/ all laws & regulations No resale nor profit from state-owned items No prohibited items (see page 70) Sales of tangible goods will be taxed at 7.4% of gross revenue. When finished, complete the event evaluation form.

8 Contributions: Making the Ask
Understand the prospect’s interests. Create win-win outcomes. Tell a compelling story. Offer a second option. Don’t take “no” personally. “There’s no such thing as failure; only feedback.”

9 A Word About Raffles Raffles are highly regulated by Colorado Secretary of State. Unlicensed games of chance for profit are illegal (gambling)! Advisor must be a licensed raffle manager. Plan well in advance. Obtain preapproval from Director of Student Activities in consultation with CSU-Pueblo Foundation.
