Air pollution is causing serious health problems and it is endangering life on Earth.

In Flint, California a recycling plant released pollutants into the atmosphere for many years. Ever since it opened, birth defects have been linked to the plant, even after it was shut down. If a plant like that were to open up in the Salt Lake area, the pollution could get trapped by inversions, causing many health problems. Factories in the Salt Lake area already contribute a lot to the regular inversions that happen in the winter. research

Another dangerous threat from air pollution is the hole it is causing in the ozone layer of the atmosphere. Ozone is a chemical in the atmosphere that helps block out ultraviolet rays. Regular pollutants don’t destroy the ozone though, things such as coolants or industrial solvents (CFC’s) are to blame. The depletion of the ozone means that we will be exposed to much more uv rays than usual, which can cause skin cancer and reduced photosynthesis in crops, potentially destroying food supplies. research

Facts about air pollution
1 out of every 8 deaths in the world can be linked to air pollution. Delhi, India has the most polluted air in the world. In 1952, a smog killed over 4000 people in London. In 2013, for the first time in recorded history, co2 levels in the atmosphere reached over 400 ppm. Over half of the percentage of released air pollution comes from industrial factories. About 25% of air pollution is caused by transportation. Facts about air pollution
7
Reduce pollution by requiring more fuel efficient cars and move factories out of the salt lake area to reduce the severity of inversions. Call to action
