1 Australia Awards long and short term study and professional development opportunities to citizens from developing countries They are targeted to provide enhanced leadership, knowledge and technical skills to partner governments, tertiary institutions and strategic organisations that are driving sustainable development. 2 Contract with AusAID Institutions must be contracted by AusAID to be eligible to receive scholars Contractual requirements include provision of services in accordance with scholarship guidelines, which are outlined in a Scholarships Handbook. - Institutions are required to meet KPIs for ongoing eligibility to retain the Contract and performance is reviewed regularly through the Annual Report and audits. 3 key requirements: Facilitating the placement and return of awardees on schedule Meeting the academic and pastoral requirements of awardees including, where necessary, intervening early to ensure academic success Meeting reporting requirements and ensuring records on the AusAID information system are up to date and accurate Managing finances in accordance with the contract University of Adelaide

4 Entitlements Establishment Allowance $5,000
Contribution to Living Expenses (CLE) $30,000 per annum Institution tuition fees Health cover (Overseas Student Health Cover) Introductory Academic Program ($2,000 per student) Supplementary academic support (up to $1,000/year) Airfares for initial travel to and final travel from Australia and reunion travel at the end of each year, return airfare for fieldwork (for students undertaking research only), pre-course English training University of Adelaide

5 Application process Applications are made to the AusAID office (Post) or the Managing Contractor in the home country, with two institution/program preferences. Deadline is generally the end of April for placement/admission in the following year. Enquiries may be received before applicants have lodged a formal application to AusAID or once they have been shortlisted for the scholarship. - HDR applicants are required to include confirmation of supervision being available. They will therefore approach potential supervisors directly for a letter confirming this. Posts are responsible for selecting and awarding scholarships to the most suitable applicants – applicants who match the desired profile, who demonstrate a strong likelihood of succeeding in their studies and who will be able to contribute to development in areas being targeted by the country or regional strategy. Shortlisted applicants will then be forwarded to the institution of preference as a Request for Placement. University of Adelaide

6 Applications – processing at UoA
Assessment of coursework applications are managed by the International Office and HDR applications by the Adelaide Graduate Centre. Tight timeframes for assessment of applications Offers must include estimated funds required for the entire duration of study, including airfare for fieldwork and any other compulsory costs that are not normally met through the tuition fees AusAID will fund foundation, preparation or articulation programs of up to 12 months. Pre course English programs may also be funded, depending on the policy of the country program. University of Adelaide

7 Awarding of Scholarship
Posts review the placement offer and award the scholarship Scholar is mobilised approximately 8 weeks before the commencement of semester (to undertake the IAP). University of Adelaide

8 The Introductory Academic Program
6 weeks duration Undertaken prior to commencement of degree program A week long Orientation program is delivered by the International Student Centre Teaching is coordinated by Dr.Julia Miller in the School of Education Close monitoring of progress by staff to identify students who may be “at risk” SCO is in regular contact with IAP staff to provide any additional support required to help students settle in successfully University of Adelaide

Ensure scholarship conditions are being met Follow up on progress Facilitating supplementary academic support Administering entitlements for professional development activities Facilitating AusAID funded travel (fieldtrips, reunion and completion travel) University of Adelaide

10 Supplementary Programs
There are also a number of supplementary programs associated with Australia Awards Scholarships including the Australia Awards Leadership Program, the Prime Minister’s Pacific Program and the Allison Sudradjat Prize. University of Adelaide
