Fasteners
6
What is a Fastener? A hardware device that mechanically joins or affixes two or more objects together
7
Fasteners can be categorized as follows:
Screws Set Screws Self Tapping Screws Bolts

Set Screws are used to secure things such as pulleys, gears & shafts
The screw passes through a threaded hole in the outer object and is tightened against the inner object A type of screw generally used to secure an object within another object Set Screws are used to secure things such as pulleys, gears & shafts

Set Screws
14
Self Tapping Screws Screws that will cut their own threads in a predrilled hold – If the hole is the appropriate size

16
Bolts Threaded fasteners that hold parts together by squeezing them between the head on one end and a nut on the other

There Are Two Types of Threads
UNC UNF Unified National Course Unified National Fine
23
How do we thread a hole?
24
First we need to determine what size hole we need to thread
26
Once we have drilled the appropriate sized hole
27
We choose the appropriate tap
