Introduction Currently India is having over 700 Universities
45 Central Universities 318 State Universities 185 Private Universities 128 Deemed-to-be Universities and 51 Institutions are of national importance Gaur (2016) reported that on an average, over 40,000 Ph.D. theses and M.Phil. dissertations are annually contributed by these Universities. The UGC Notification (Minimum Standards & Procedure for Award of M.Phil./ Ph.D Degree, Regulation, 2009) dated 1st June 2009 mandates submission of electronic version of theses and dissertations (ETDs) by the researchers in universities with an aim to facilitate open access to Indian theses and dissertations to the academic community world-wide.

Introduction… Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) are electronic versions of traditional print theses. Online availability of electronic theses through digital repositories, not only ensure easy access and archiving of doctoral theses but will also help in raising the standard and quality of research. This would definitely overcome serious problem of duplication of research and poor quality resulting from the "poor visibility" and the "unseen" factor in research output. As per the UGC Notification, "Shodhganga: A Reservoir of Theses and Dissertations“ was set up by INFLIBNET Centre to host and maintain the digital repository of Indian Electronic Theses and Dissertation accessible to all institutions and universities.
