Natal Culture Cultural Transition Cultural Transformation Teacher talk is about what students don’t know and can’t do and how students and parents don’t care about learning. Teacher talk changes to what students need to support their learning. Teachers assume full responsibility for student learning outcomes and take great pride in students’ accomplishments. Good teaching practice is generic. Learning outcomes are based on effort and intelligence. Teachers make connections between teaching practices and learning outcomes, but not student characteristics. Teachers make connections among teaching practices, student characteristics, and learning outcomes. Teaching practices are private. Induction into the professional community is automatic and without planning or intent. Trust develops within the professional community. Teachers talk openly about their practice and take responsibility for professional development within the professional community. © 2015 Etta R. Hollins
