Among the activities encountered by a troop’s leaders are: Organizing the troop Planning and organizing activities and meetings Assigning duties to others Planning menus and figuring out food costs Encouraging advancement Guiding a troop’s involvement in problem-solving Teaching outdoor, sports, or craft skills Ensuring the troop’s safety during meetings and outings Handling the troop’s finances Helping other Boy Scouts make the most of their own leadership opportunities Encouraging participation The badge of office presented to a Boy Scout who is accepting a position of troop leadership does not automatically make him a good leader.

4 Youth Leadership Development
The National Youth Leadership Training Program (NYLT) is Boy Scouting’s premiere youth leadership development program. NYLT is an intensive, fun, hands-on, and challenging week-long program that combines outdoor adventure and classroom instruction to provide Scouts with experiences and tools for becoming great leaders NYLT focuses on the concepts of what a leader must BE, what a leader must KNOW, and what a leader must DO.

Scouts learn and develop skills such as communication; problem solving; presentation making; team development; working with adult leaders and youth in administrative areas; and ethical decision-making –From Other Scouts. These skills learned at NYLT will benefit Scouts not only as youth leaders but in other aspects of his life.  Geo-caching, pioneering, role-playing, games, patrol competitions, overnight backpacking, and camping are all part of the curriculum.

Scoutmasters have significant influence in getting candidates to attend. Who do you see as your future SPLs and ASPLs? NYLT teaches and prepares them to run the troop BEFORE they take office. Upcoming schedule June 2017 June 2017 1 - 5 August 2017 (Sunday Friendly)

7 Youth Leadership Development
NAYLE National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience is an exciting program that enhances leadership skills and expands upon the team-building and ethical decision-making skills learned in National Youth Leadership Training. NAYLE emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and selfless service, using the core elements of NYLT to help youth strengthen these skills. Scouts must be 14 but not yet 20 years old, hold a unit leadership position, and have completed NYLT.

The Boy Scouts must have the right idea. Commercial firms have very similar camps for a much higher cost!
