OUHSD Approach to Work-Based Learning
Our students complete a progression of work-based learning experiences which prepares them to make informed college and career decisions and allows them to acquire necessary college and career ready skills. OUHSD continuum of work-based learning provides value for the students and business partners. Students complete assignments before, during, and after work-based learning experiences to help them connect their experiences to their academy/CTE courses, as well as to their own college and career options.

Work-Based Learning is an instructional strategy that:
Connects what students are learning in class with the world of work Involves integration with business partners Provides Students with career awareness, career exploration, and career preparation Includes a recurrent continuum of experiences Aligns with intentional student learning outcomes Prepares students for success in post-secondary education and careers Benefits the student, the business partner, and the high school

Business Intermediary networks with business partners in all industry sectors. Share’s contact information with the Coordinator of Work Based Learning Assist in coordinating and implementing large work based learning activities (National Job Shadow day, Summer at City Hall, Sweets by the Beach)

Work-Based learning request
One liaison between our Business Intermediary and business partners between our Teachers send the request or to our office Dates of activity, number of students and times for the activity are needed before the request is given to our partners

Keeping partners engaged
We hold monthly board meetings to keep them updated on students progress, work-based learning activities, and curriculum development Annual recognition night: We highlight activities our partners have been engaged in and give “Champion” awards to partners
