3 BACKHOE RODEO OVERVIEW
Any capable manger, experienced supervisor or hard working labor force member knows the value of a good heavy equipment operator. The operators can be responsible for saving money as well as the back of their fellow employees. The nature of those who excel in the profession is to perform their job duties routinely and without much fanfare. It is rare that there is opportunity to display their talents in a competitive setting. As a participant, he or she will be competing with motorized equipment professionals from other counties, municipalities’ or other entities. The focus of the competitions is on safe, fundamental and skillful operation of specialized heavy equipment. The backhoe rodeo events are tied directly to standard job requirements. Participation in this event could be very rewarding to the operator and your organization.

The desired outcome of the rodeo To recognize operators of heavy equipment. To promote professional fellowship through good natured competition. To enhance operation skills associated with heavy equipment. To emphasize safe operation of heavy equipment. To cultivate team work. To boost employee morale.

5 Initial Planning BACKHOE RODEO OVERVIEW CONTINUE Obtain all available information and supplies from previous rodeo coordinators. Organize a committee and plan meetings to meet on event issues until the date of event. Provide own backhoe equipment or recruit vendors for loan/demonstration of equipment for the event. Option recruit vendors for prizes for each rodeo participant. Establish awards: Plagues/ Trophies, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place winners or give certificates to each participant. Records scores on score time sheet and on scoreboard. Recruit volunteers for event judges. Contact the media the date for schedule Backhoe Rodeo Event The rodeo schedule will be as follows: Registration Time Rodeo Events Time (Start – End) Lunch Time (Optional) Awards Presentation

6 ON SITE EQUIPMENT & SUPPLY CHECKLIST
Backhoe (Optional more than 1) Traffic Cones Pads for Backhoe Temporary Traffic Tape T-Shirts: Optional Plagues/ Trophies, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd or Certificates Score Time Sheets for each participant Score Board Stop watches (At least 2 stop watches for single event) Clip Boards Permanent Markers Chalk Line or painted area for each event Rodeo Barricades Events items/props ( Any items that are necessary for prop event) Duct Tape ON SITE EQUIPMENT & SUPPLY CHECKLIST

7 STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES
BACKHOE OBJECTIVE: All rodeo event participants will complete in the event in a safe manner. This event is to test the operator’s skills in the use of the backhoe by moving a pin from One location to another using a hook attached to the bucket. Time limit for this event is Three (3) minutes/180 seconds. PROCEDURES The bucket will be in the folded position with outriggers in place and the engine running at idle speed. The backhoe RMP is set at 1500RMP. The backhoe is set at backhoe mode. (Never set setting at Excavator Mode). STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES

The operator makes adjust to seat then places both hands on top of head for safety. (Safety hands on head before starting event and during an event when an event is incomplete) PROCEDURES

9 PROCEDURES STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES CONTINUE (A judge timing an event)
The judge will signal to start and the time begins once the operators hands are on joystick /lever controls. If the participant during the event drops or knocks down an event or incompletes the event, the time will stop and the participant will get a restart. The time stops once the bucket has been folded and placed back into starting position on the pavement/ ground, a maximum of three (3) minutes/180 seconds will be allowed to complete the event or the participant will be disqualified. Idle speed will remain the same for all participants. This event will be based on total time. The time placed on the scoreboard is recorded in seconds only. (A judge timing an event) PROCEDURES

A maximum of three (3) minutes or 180 seconds will be allowed to complete the event or if the Participant incompletes an event the Participant will be given a score of 180 seconds. (A judge timing an event) PROCEDURES
