Based on the results of the assessment, at Nova Academy we have great assessment tools to increase our students academics skills. I-Station and Study Island help with Reading strategies. Go-Math and Measuring Up are very helpful tools to build math skills. Teachers will continue to monitor and evaluate students’ progress throughout the year. Remember to check backpacks each day for homework and other important information. A special note from the teachers!
KC Greetings Parents, Math: We are recognizing the numbers 1-100; learning to count by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s; we are working problem-solving with numbers. Reading: Learning more high-frequency words, reading by ourselves in groups. ELA:-Writing complete sentences and learning correct punctuation. Social Studies and Science: Learning about communities, maps, and different types of families and friends. -Ms. Taylor 1A Greeting 1A Parents and Guardians, Reading: Continue practicing summarizing and visualizing; identifying the main idea and details; and retelling a story. We will also continue Identifying letter-sound correspondence, practicing decoding words and increasing our knowledge of sight words to improve reading fluency. Language Arts: We will be learning about irregular plural nouns, capitalizing proper nouns, and continue with sentence punctuation. Spelling: We will be word sorting with short u, consonant digraphs th, sh, ng, -Ms. McDowell 1B Hello Parents, Math: We will continue learning about addition and subtraction strategies and money. Social Studies: We will be learning about maps and globes. Science: We will be learning about the earth’s resources and recycling. -Ms. Felts 2nd Grade Math: We are continuing our study of composing and decomposing numbers , comparing and basic addition and subtraction of numbers up to 20. Reading: We will continue to decode words using our phonetic sounds. ELA: We will continue to learn the parts of speech in order to become an effective writer. We will also continue to use punctuations correctly while writing. Science: We are learning about Matter and Energy and how they interact together. Social Studies: We will continue to learn about The World around us. Reminder: 2nd grade will present Dec 6, at the PTO Meeting. -Ms. Carson 3rd Grade Dear Parents, Third Grade continues to work on reading and math strategies. The strategies are PLORE for reading and CUBES for math. We added another element to our routine and that is pacing. We are learning to pace our time during test taking and pace ourselves during reading for better comprehension. We thank our parents for their support. -Ms. McLaurin ESL Greeting Parents, This month we will work on identifying and reading the ABC’s in Pre-K, and the commonly seen words in K-3rd Grade. We will discuss families and what we do together this time of year. We will work on our writing skills, from simple sentences to short stories. Each week we will also look at a book and predict what’s happing before we read it. -Mr. Bryan Pre-K A,B and C Happy Holidays, Writing:The Pre-K students are working hard and it’s IMPROVING. Social Studies: We had elections to learn how our country works. It was fun and we learned a lot. -Pre-K Team -Ms. Pleasant -Ms. Saulsberry -Ms. Powers KA Greetings Parents, Science: We are learning that we use our senses to explore the world around us with our concentration being centered on taste and hearing. Math: We are learning how to write our numbers from 0-10 also recognizing those numbers when we see them. We are starting to learn about ordinal numbers as well as Geometric shapes. Social Studies: We are learning about friends all over the world and how some of the things they do to have fun so do we. Spelling: We are learning new words every week. We are learning many new and exciting things in KA. -Ms. Boyd KB Hello Parents Reading: We are reading our sight words in complete sentences! ELA: We are adding new high frequency words to our word wall and using them daily. Science: We are learning about light, heat, magnets and attraction. -Ms. Shead
