1 Jason is a Blue Penguin Blue penguins are also known as fairy penguins or little penguins – these are the only penguins with more than one name. Penguins are birds. Most penguins have black and white feathers, but not fairy penguins. The wings of fairy penguins are blue. That is why they are also called blue penguins. Penguins have a funny waddle (another word for walk), but cannot fly. When they are in the water, they dive and flap their wings. It looks just like they are flying!

2 Fairy penguins are the smallest penguins in the world, they are between 33-43 centimetres tall.
Emperor penguins are the tallest and they can be as tall as 122 centimetres. Fairy penguins weigh around 1.5 kg (3.3 pounds) on average. They can swim at the the speed of 6 km per hour. They can swim up to 2.5 km/hour (1.6 mph). Fairy penguins are very fond of swimming and spend most of their daylight time underwater, searching for food in the ocean. Young penguins can fetch a food for themselves after 2 months.

The average lifespan of fairy penguins birds is 6.5 years, but in captivity they can live up to 25 years. Fairy penguins live in warm places! They live on the coastline of Australia and New Zealand and also in some parts of South Africa and Chile. There are more than 20,000 little penguin pairs in Southern Australia. There are between is 350,000 – 600,000 fairy penguins in the world, so they are not an endangered species.
