2. What is phonics?
Phonics is a way of teaching children to read quickly and skilfully.
We teach our children how to recognise the sounds that each individual letter makes.

Year 2 – Phase 6

We teach the children these words by sight.

Words that are occur most frequently in books.

10. Year 1 phonics screening
In year 1 the children will go through a check.
This is to identify what they have learnt in phonics.
They will read real words and nonsense words.
