1 Raising awareness on the ramifications of Digital Divide

2 Understanding Digital Divide
A digital Divide is an economic and social inequality with regard to access to, use of, or impact of information and communication technologies. Some main causes of Digital Divide Lack of Access due to affordability Lack of knowledge how to use the technology Lack of knowledge of the benefits of the technology The primary barriers to broadband adoption can typically be classified as follows: lack of understanding of the relevance and benefits of broadband lack of skills or familiarity with information technologies, or confidence to use them affordability of connection and access fees, and devices with which to access broadband.

3 What does it mean to be digitally responsible?
We believe that it's our responsibility to use technology in a way that doesn't harm others and to be aware of the impact that technology has on our health, environment, and society at large.

4 Why does the digital divide matter?
It is particularly important to address the digital divide in order to meet the Digital Rights of each member of the society, which proposes ambitious targets for high-speed broadband services The roles technologies play in our lives are rapidly expanding

5 Bridging the gap of digital divide
To bridge the gap of the digital divide we must create new innovative solutions to the pervasive problems of poverty. Educating and empowing the young, the old, the rich, and the poor should be one of the priorities that the government be concerned to limit the issue of Digital Divide. Once this is done our economies become stronger, our advances come quicker.  Our hungry eat and our sick get better. Working together on a global level we can correct bad legislation, create new affirmative legislation, gain a better use of current technologies and

6 Some of this Digital divide barriers can be overcome and addressed through government programmes to implement education and demand stimulation initiatives such as the development of e-government, e- health, e-learning and e-business, aimed at encouraging the development and use of new broadband applications

7 In order to bridge the digital divide, we need to change our cultural perception of “intelligence”.

8 Access to information and communication technology (ICT) is essential in the developing world because it is key to improving a country’s educational and economic prospects. However, the cost of new equipment, limited infrastructure and the lack of IT knowledge and proficiency mean that many people still have no access to IT. Today, information is seen as one of the major drivers of economic and social development and ICT makes access to information available on an unprecedented scale. The digital divide is not only a divide between people who have access to ICT and people who don’t. It’s also a divide between people who have knowledge of ICT and those who don’t, between people who realise the opportunities presented by ICT and those who don’t. It consists of an infrastructure gap, a knowledge gap and a psychological gap. Close the Gap collects decommissioned computers from companies and arranges for other organisations to clean the hard disks and then check and configure the hardware according to the requirements of its end-users. The computers are then shipped to the destination country by sea or air transport. Since 2003, Close the Gap has already received more than 250,000 computers from companies all over Europe. Close the Gap not only provides computers to developing countries, but it also builds partnerships with organisations worldwide in order to deliver comprehensive software and hardware solutions to its recipients. Today, Close the Gap has supported more than 2,500 projects all over the world. However diverse the projects, they all have one common denominator: a focus on advancing both the individual and the community within a spirit of socio-economical education. By following this principle, Close the Gap is participating in the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
