2 Using Google Docs in Education
Google Docs is an internet based service from Google that allows its users to create documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. You can store these files on Google’s web space for free and can then access them on any computer with Internet access. There are three educational applications that we will briefly look at: Using Google Docs in a classroom setting for basic activities and lesson plans, using Google Docs in a media center for research related tasks, and using Google Docs as a way to bridge the digital divide between our students.

3 Using Google Docs in a Classroom Setting
Google Docs has many applications with a classroom. Students can use Google Docs to create documents for research classes and other assignments, spreadsheets for math and science research projects, and create presentations to present projects. Teachers can use Google Docs in their lesson plans to enhance lessons with a high dose of technology, allowing students access to great way to create and store media. It also allows easy sharing of work between teachers and students to ensure a better collaborative effort when conducting projects and assignments.

4 Google Docs in a Media Center for Research
A school media center can often be hampered by budget concerns; however, as long as there are computers with internet access Google Docs can be a useful tool at a fraction of what other software costs. Google Docs is a great way to keep track of resources in documents and spreadsheets that would be used later on in research papers or projects. It is a easy way to create annotated bibliographies. The media center is also a great way to train students in how to use technology like Google Docs.

5 Google Docs as a way to bridge the digital divide
The digital divide is a gap that exists between students coming from different minority and socioeconomic backgrounds. Often students can not afford the computers or the software in disadvantaged areas.
