Life is impossible without water and so do the life of Indians without rivers which form an important part of their lives. Almost every river in India is revered as a goddess. Be it Ganga, Yamuna, Godhavari,Saraswati (Mythology), Narmada, Tapti etc.. Even their tributaries are revered and so do their distributries. For eg. Tapti is considered as Daughter of Sun. There are mythological and spiritual stories associated with all the rivers in India.

5 Some festivals are celebrated in gratitude to Kaveri
Kaveri Pushkaram Kaveri Pushkaram is a festival of River Kaveri that normally occurs once in 12 years. This Pushkaram is observed for a period of 13 days from the time of entry of Jupiter into Tula rasi (Libra)

6 Aadi peruku IN KAVERI The Aadi Perukku festival, the thanksgiving festival to rivers, has celebrated with traditional gaiety in Tamil Nadu. The festival is celebrated on 18th of Aadi month in Tamil calendar year in gratitude to water bodies especially Kavery river. The Kavery River, the lifeline of delta farmers, is worshipped with traditional gaiety . The river is considered as the bride and the Sea bridegroom and rituals are conducted with great fanfare in delta regions.

10 The river Kaveri is the sacred river of India and holds the special religious importance. People in India considers river Kaveri as Goddess and worship it. She has been referred o as the Goddess Kaveri Amman. According to the legends she purifies our karmas and washes away all our sufferings. She is the Universal mother and is believed to give us peace. 

11 The river Kaveri has been supporting the large amount of wildlife
The river Kaveri has been supporting the large amount of wildlife. Millions of people in south India are heavily dependent on its water especially the tribal population. Its water is widely used for the purpose of irrigation and for the power supply. The hydroelectric plant built on the left Sivanasamudra Falls on the Kaveri, was the first hydroelectric plant in Karnataka.
