Professional Adviser to the Episcopal Vicar for Education Based at CASO Leads the CASO team Works with the CASO team Employed and paid by the Multi Academy Trust Company Employed and paid by the Diocesan Trustees

Standards Monitoring and evaluating standards across all schools and academies Brokering support for schools ‘at risk’ Producing data base of effective consultants and monitoring and evaluating their work in schools Liaising with relevant bodies on all aspects of school improvement Work with relevant bodies to remedy difficult situations in schools Providing information on CPD to improve standards Developing partnerships between schools/academies and the four MATs

Leading the CASO team Create a CASO plan and monitor it’s delivery and effectiveness Establish the CASO budget Manage personnel to achieve the CASO plan Plan staff professional development Establish systems and structures to deliver services to non-academy schools Manage the team to ensure a high quality professional service is provided Monitor and evaluate the work of external consultants working on behalf of CASO

Communication and Collaboration
Develop systems for effective communication between schools, MATs and the Diocese Ensure a rolling programme of visits by members of CASO to all schools in the diocese Establish and refresh links with independent schools Liaising with the Diocesan Safeguarding Office as appropriate for our schools Sustaining and building links with the education services of other dioceses, the Diocesan School Commissioners, NBRIA, CES and CISC Co-operate actively with Las, RSC, DFE and other bodies that are engaged with our schools.

Provide development for current and future leaders Provide development for all staff Provide development for children

Advice and Support Providing pastoral care for leaders in our schools
Support and advice for Heads and governors on RE, worship, Catholic life, staffing, curriculum and standards Providing support for schools to be compliant with current legislation Development of a buildings and maintenance programme Providing training needed by those in governance specific to Catholic schools Advising schools on admission and exclusion of pupils Provision of school places Commissioning legal advice on school matters To the CASO team

Recruitment and professional development
Ensure diocesan representation at the appointment of CEOs/Heads/Deputies/Heads of RE/RE Leaders/Lay Chaplains Working with MATs to recruit committed Catholic staff at all levels Assist in the development of Induction and development programmes for Priest and Deacon Chaplains Work with schools to develop Catholic leaders for the future Assist in the development of CPD to strengthen all areas of school life Assist in the development of CPD to strengthen RE and chaplaincy Implement effective programmes for RE, RSE, Collective Worship Work with other dioceses, Catholic HEIs and other agencies to offer CPD appropriate to our needs

Arranging liturgical celebrations and other gatherings for schools with the Bishop in partnership with Professional Adviser Promoting the role of all Catholic schools within the ‘Framework for Collaboration’ Encouraging with Adviser to Episcopal Vicar the pro-active support of Diocesan initiatives/national initiatives

Advise and support To enable the Bishop effectively to discharge his responsibilities in Canon Law and Civil Law in the oversight of Catholic Schools and wider educational provision. To assist the Bishop and Episcopal Vicar in developing innovation for Catholic education in the Diocese. (mission & evangelisation) To actively support the Director for Education in ensuring the development of the MATs from within CASO team

Collaborating with the CASO team
Participate in Multiple Academy Trust Company meetings Manage and progress aspects of CASO plan in agreement with Director Assist with staff professional development as appropriate Act as point of reference for Bishop/Episcopal Vicar with CASO Advise on interface between canon law/statutory obligations

Communication and Collaboration
Assist and advise on effective communication between schools, MATs and the Diocese Ensure with Director all members of CASO are fully briefed on any pastoral policy development/implementation from Bishop and His Council Participate in rolling programme of visits to schools Assist and collaborate with Director in building links with other dioceses, DSCs, NBRIA, CES and CISC Support and where appropriate lead on active cooperation with LAs, RSC, DFE, ecumenical partners & other agencies engaged with schools. Ensure guidance/directives from Congregation for Catholic Education/Congregation for Laity, Family and Life and relevant papal teaching is disseminated accordingly

On-Going Faith development
Assist and support Director on Catholic formation development for current and future leaders (ecclesiology/theology/spirituality) Contribute to provision for development for all staff and governors Advise on and assist in development for children Project manage initiatives as appropriate Coordinate emphasis on development aligned with specific diocesan vision as well as themes/initiatives emanating from Rome [universal level] Active member of CES Faith Steering Group [feedback to CASO]

Report to trustees education committee
Briefings 5 times per year chaired by Episcopal Vicar Updating members on Ofsted outcomes per term [concerns/challenges] Summary report on current Section 48 Validations/notice of Validations due Update on any recent senior leadership appointments achieved and vacancies expected Provide detail of any specific ongoing faith development provision Briefing on academy conversion and MAT development Feedback specific lines of enquiry/concerns from Trustees to CASO Team

Independent Schools Establish renewed ties of communication
Explore models of collaborative working aligned to diocesan Framework Enhance ties and interaction with Catholic Independent Schools Conference Provide advice and support on compliance with canon law Ensure inclusion and welcome of Independent schools within provision for ongoing faith development as appropriate Collaborate with Director and others in developing renewal of validation process Explore and encourage appropriate levels of interaction between Independent schools and the MATs

Enhance catholic life and mission
Providing pastoral care for leaders in all schools Assist Director with support and advice for Heads and governors on RE, worship, Catholic life, and staffing Seek to enhance Validation process and experience for schools Development of RSE (relationships & sex education) policy, and curricula templates Develop and provide list of resources to enhance RSE approved by Bishop Provide training/formation on RSE as required Create and sustain active and vibrant partnership with Educational Chaplaincy Promote and support active engagement with Youth Mission Team Explore/develop more collaboration with “Called & Gifted” programme/Caritas Portsmouth
