About Safe4RAIL
3
Safe4RAIL Partner overview
11 Partners

Shift2Rail Motivation: Advanced Integrated Modular Architecture TD for TCMS
5
Shift2Rail Motivation Overview: Advanced Integrated Modular Architecture for TCMS
Integrate different critical (SIL3/4) and non-critical functions in one system, enable embedded resource sharing among diff. functions Minimize (re)commisioning and (re)certification effort for upgrades, modifications, and extensions
6
Safe4RAIL Objectives (1/2)
Obj. 1: Configurable Mixed Criticality Networking “Drive-By-Data” Concept for next generation of European TCMS supporting the integration of SIL4 functions. Obj. 2: Mixed Criticality Application Framework Concept for modular integration of distributed TCMS applications side-by-side, supporting criticality levels up to SIL4. Obj. 3: Simulation and Testing Environment for distributed embedded railway systems.
7
Safe4RAIL Objectives (2/2)
Obj. 4: Architecture and Safety Concept for Brake-by-Wire (SIL4) utilizing the Networking- and Application Framework Concepts. Obj. 5: Modular Certification capability enabled by the distributed embedded railway platform and systems. Obj. 6: Contribution to standards

Lessons Learnt

General H2020 submission ‚rules‘
Understand what is asked from you Call text EU / JU and NCPs Consortium Get your consortium ready, get to know them, write! Pay attention to what is asked for in the call, think about complementarities, keep the consortium lean Clear responsibilities within the group Distribution of efforts on the various sections Regular status meetings Support it with the technical infrastructure Safe4RAIL SVN had 628 commits until the deadline distributed across the 11 partners
11
General H2020 submission ‚rules‘
Read the evaluation guidance („Annex H“) and follow it closely Section 1: Excellence Section 2: Impact Section 3: Implementation (dont forget Section 4 and Section 5 though) Be precise, do not leave information for the evaluators to interpret Put yourself in the evaluator‘s shoes
12
Evaluation Criteria H2020 (1/3)
Section 1: Excellence Clarity and pertinence of the objectives Soundness of the concept, and credibility of the proposed methodology Extent that the proposed work is beyond the state of the art, and demonstrates innovation potential (e.g. ground-breaking objectives, novel concepts and approaches, new products, services or business and organisational models) Appropriate consideration of interdisciplinary approaches and, where relevant, use of stakeholder knowledge
13
Evaluation Criteria H2020 (2/3)
Section 2: Impact The extent to which the outputs of the project would contribute to each of the expected impacts mentioned in the work programme under the relevant topic Any substantial impacts not mentioned in the work programme, that would enhance innovation capacity, create new market opportunities, strengthen competitiveness and growth of companies, address issues related to climate change or the environment, or bring other important benefits for society Quality of the proposed measures to: Exploit and disseminate the project results (including management of IPR), and to manage research data where relevant Comunicate the project activities in different target audiences
14
Evaluation Criteria H2020 (3/3)
Section 3: Implementation Quality and effectiveness of the workplan, including extent to which the resources assigned to WPs are in line with their objectives and deliverables Appropriateness of the management structures and procedures, including risk and innovation management Complementarity of the participants and extent to which the consortium as a whole brings together the necessary expertise Appropriateness of teh allocation of tasks, ensuring that all participants have a valid role and adequate resources in the project to fulfil that role
15
Shift2Rail particularities
Prepare: Read, discuss, re-read Attend to information and/or training sessions You are here Work your way through the participant portal ‚jungle‘ CFM, OC, IPx, Many materials are available openly, make use of them, put your project ‚in the right context‘ Call for Proposals, H2020 Guidance Shift2Rail documents Strategic Master Plan Multi-Annual Action Plan Annual Work Plan In our case: (main) focus: Shift2Rail WP1.2: Next-Gen TCMS Reduce System Complexity, Weight System Lifecycle Costs Improve Reliability and OPEX
16
Shift2Rail particularities (continued)
Prepare for collaboration All projects are launched as ‚twin projects‘ One CFM project is matched with one OC project Multiple contact points: Shift2Rail Joint Undertaking Programme Manager Steering Committee (in our case IP1 „Cost-efficient and Reliable Trains, including high capacity trains and high speed trains“) Twin project coordinator GA, CA, and Collaboration Agreement
17
Role of S2R JU’s Programme Manager
Ensuring with the IP1 SteCo the fullfilment of the Master Plan Central Contact Point for SAFE4RAIL. Supervise SAFE4RAIL and the fulfilment of contractual obligations Check, deliverables, periodic reports, perform on-site reviews, etc. Check financial statements. IP1 SteeCo SAFE4RAIL Role/Interaction IP1 SteeCo and interactions with SAFE4RAIL Ensuring continuity/synchronicity of SAFE4RAIL to the IP and in relation to other IP and CCA. Ensuring SAFE4RAIL contribution to the realisation of the MAAP. Reporting to the S2R ED on the performance of SAFE4RAIL activities. SAFE4RAIL Coordinator may attend the SteeCo meetings as observer with the agreement of the ED and invitation by the Chairperson. IP Coordinator cooperate with SAFE4RAIL Coordinator to foster/promote synergies between TDs and CCA Area, different Activities of other IPs and CCA, H2020 1st call projects, etc. Role of the Coordinator Central Contact Point for the S2R JU. Administers the S2R financial funding. Reviews the reports to verify consistency. Monitors the compliance under the GA. Role of beneficiaries Carry out the work as identified in the Annex 1. Provide all data (financial and technical) requested by the S2R JU. Inform the S2R JU of any event that might affect the implementation.
