Based on the 4100gl form factor, ProCurve’s 4200vl chassis family brings high value to customers who are price sensitive and looking for high-density 10/100 and 10/100/1000 solutions. With the fiber flexibility of Gigabit SX, LX, and LH, customers can connect campus and high-rise buildings. With the inclusion of 100FX, customers can upgrade their network to Gigabit fiber while still using their investments in 100FX. Standards-based means easy integration into any network. Customers who migrate to ProCurve will have a previous investment in other vendors’ switches. The ProCurve Switch 4208vl is a standard 5U 8 slot chassis designed to meet any customer custom configuration such as a fiber concentrator, supporting legacy 100FX, and mixing and matching 10/100 and 10/100/1000 modules for user and server consolidation. DHCP Option 82 is called the relay agent information option and is inserted by the DHCP relay agent when forwarding client-originated DHCP packets to a DHCP server. Servers recognizing the relay agent information option may use the information to implement IP address or other parameter assignment policies. The DHCP server echoes the option back verbatim to the relay agent in server-to-client replies, and the relay agent strips the option before forwarding the reply to the client.

The aaa authentication command configures the access control for console port and Telnet access to the switch. That is, for both access methods, aaa authentication specifies whether to use a TACACS+ server or the switch’s local authentication, or (for some secondary scenarios) no authentication (meaning that if the primary method fails, authentication is denied). This command also reconfigures the number of access attempts to allow in a session if the first attempt uses an incorrect username/password pair.
Eavesdrop protection
Configuring port security on a Series 4200vl switch port automatically enables eavesdrop protection for that port. This prevents use of the port to flood unicast packets addressed to MAC addresses unknown to the switch.
