(You will have to answer them later!) 1.  Do you see the photographs integrated into the artwork? 2.  Is there a story he is telling?  What do you think it is? 3.  How has he manipulated his photographs and why do you think he did this? 4.  Is Dan Eldon's art shocking, funny, moving?  What emotion does he evoke after viewing the video and looking at his journals? 5.  Does he inspire you to do anything for the world? What art medium does he use? Is it art?

9 Warm up: extra credit assignment NATIONAL GALLERY PHOTO OP
1. OPEN PHOTO-OP ( EXPLORE the DIRECTIONS for using SNAPPER, EDITOR and SAVE under the virtual camera MOVE THE CURSER AROUND ON THE CAMERA WINDOW SCREEN AND TAKE AT LEAST 5 PICTURES BY SNAPPING THE RED BUTTON ON THE VIRTUAL CAMERA. PICK YOUR FAVORITE PHOTO PHOTO ON THE LEFT SIDE AND CLICK ON IT EDIT your photo by using the EDITING menus.  EXPERIMENT with zoom, crop, mirror, collage, color.  See what the buttons do! (Directions for saving on Photo-Op site) SAVE: It's a good idea to save your work often so you can backtrack if you change your mind. You can save 18 pictures and mix them together to create interesting screens and collages. Saved pictures will remain active and "editable" as long as your Web browser and the window with the PHOTO OP program remain open. If you refresh the Web page, the interactive will reload and all work in progress will disappear. To take more pictures, return to the SNAPPER activity by clicking the camera icon at the top left. To share your designs electronically or to save them to your computer, create a PDF or take a screen shot. Here's how.   RECOMMENDED BROWSERS: If you have a Macintosh, use Safari or Firefox 2. On a Windows-based computer, use Internet Explorer or Firefox 2.  Firefox 3 is still in development, and you may experience display problems with Shockwave and Flash content. If parts of the interactive "disappear"  from view, or if portions of the Firefox window turn black, just resize the browser window POST ONE PHOTO The extra credit forum  with name, date, and title "PHOTO OP VIRTUAL ASSIGNMENT" .  Along with the posted photo tell us what you did to manipulate the photo.  Did you use the color button?  Did you zoom in on a section and use the emboss selection?  Did it change the look of the original photo?

Look at the powerpoint presentation in this folder to find out what you are supposed to do for Part 1 of this assignment. PART ONE: 1.  FIRST, USE THIS LINK AS A GUIDE TO CHOOSE A GOOD PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE.  ANY PROGRAM THAT CAN BE USED TO MANIPULATE A PHOTO WILL WORK WITH THIS ASSIGNMENT ( photo-editing-software.html) 2. THINK ABOUT SOMETHING, SOMEONE, OR SOMEPLACE THAT MEANS A LOT TO YOU.  THINK ABOUT WHAT EMOTIONS THAT PERSON, PLACE OR THING BRINGS TO YOU TAKE AT LEAST 20 PHOTOS OF THAT SUBJECT.  USE THE RULES OF COMPOSITION THAT YOU LEARNED ABOUT IN READ IT! EXPLORE IT!  USE ALL THAT YOU HAVE LEARNED ABOUT TAKING A GOOD PHOTO AND EXPERIMENT WITH THIS ASSIGNMENT USE PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE TO MANIPULATE YOUR 3 FAVORITE PHOTOS FROM THE SERIES AND POST THEM ON THE BLOG BELOW.  TELL WHAT YOU WERE TRYING SHOW AND HOW YOU ACHIEVED THIS.  I WOULD LIKE FOR YOU TO PICK YOUR BEST ONE, AND IT TO ME.

DO THE FOLLOWING ASSIGNMENT AFTER COMPLETING "DAN ELDON PROJECT - PART ONE" AND WATCHING THE DAN ELDON VIDEO, VIEWING HIS JOURNALS AND THINKING ABOUT THE QUESTIONS POSED IN THE JOURNAL SITE FOLDER CHOOSE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE PHOTOS FROM THE PREVIOUS ASSIGNMENT (DAN ELDON PROJECT - PART 1) CREATE A PAGE IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK THAT MUST CONTAIN ALL OR PARTS OF TWO PHOTOS (CAN BE MORE) FROM YOUR SERIES.  YOU MUST USE A PHOTO EDITING PROGRAM TO MANIPULATE AT LEAST ONE OF THOSE PHOTOS YOU MUST ALSO USE AT LEAST THREE OTHER ART MEDIUMS TO COMPLETE THE PROCESS.  YOU CAN USE PAINT, COLOR PENCIL, MARKER, GEL PENS, PENCIL, TAPE, STICKERS, ETC YOU MUST INCLUDE SOME SORT OF TEXT (WRITING) IN YOUR DESIGN THE FINISHED PAGE IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK MUST REFLECT THE MOOD OF THIS SPECIAL SUBJECT PHOTOGRAPH THE PAGE IN YOUR SKETCHBOOK AND POST ON Dan eldon sketchbook forum WITH A DESCRIPTION OF YOUR PLACE AND WHAT YOU WERE TRYING TO SHOW OR EVOKE WITH THE SKETCHBOOK PAGE GO TO CRITIQUE LESSON AND CLICK ON DAN ELDON FORUM.  COMPLETE DISCUSSION BOARD ASSIGNMENT.

Below are 2 important photographers in history. Do some research and find one whose photographs interest you.  Learn more about the photographer and answer the following questions about your favorite photographer in the forum: Who is your artist? 13 Connect it…assignment #2 Watch the Birdie
Click on the link ( to role play as a customer or apprentice photographer at the famous Notman studio in Montreal. To start use full name and click on the hand. You gain or lose points depending upon your answers to the questions posed. You can accumulate up to 1000 points, 500 per character. ASSIGNMENT: me your results (number of points scored)! Tell me what you learned. Title the "WATCH THE BIRDIE“ Quick review for: WATCH THE BIRDIE ASSIGNMENT: 1. Play game. 2. me and let me know how many points you earned. 3. What were 3 things you did not know. What was one thing you already knew. What do you want to know more about? 4. What character were you? 5. How is this different than having a picture taken in the 21st Century?

14 Connect it…assignment #3 Notman and Eldon
ASSIGNMENT: Compare and contrast Notmans composite photography to Eldons journals photography collages by posting a note on the WALLWISHER site. Read other notes posted. QUESTION: What are the similarities and differences between Notman's composite photographs and Eldon's journal photograph collages?  Click on the following link to go to the wall.  Click somewhere on the wall and a text box will appear.  Type in your name and thoughts. POST THOUGHTS HERE:

15 Critique it Read the article titled “Photography Art.”
Assignment to be posted: Add a new discussion topic titled "Dan Eldon Discussion" and your name. Answer the following questions after looking at Dan Eldon's journals and doing your sketchbook project (12.4.1) Do you see the photographs integrated into the artwork? 2.  Is there a story he is telling?  What do you think it is? 3.  How has he manipulated his photographs and why do you think he did this? 4.  Is Dan Eldon's art shocking, funny, moving?  What emotion does he evoke after viewing the video and looking at his journals? 5.  Does he inspire you to do anything for the world? What art medium does he use? Is it art?

16 Imagine it Watch the Barnstormers video and complete the following assignment: 1. Take at least 5 digital photos of something that is changing: for example – someone doing a cartwheel, a picture you draw, dinner on your plate, a ball going into a basket, a puddle of water…USE YOUR IMAGINATION! 2. Put the photos in order and them to me. Tell me what the change you are showing is. Tell me why you chose this subject and how each change “photo” will be important in your barnstormer movie. 3. Upload the photos in a (modern-day flipbook) animation program like: Animoto (see below), PowerPoint, Photojam, and set to music. Post to your extra credit forum. Transitions should be rapid to show movement. Send me an to let me know you did this. ANIMOTO TIPS: You may use Animoto or another one. Sign up for a free account and follow directions to EMBED in your blog. Choose EMBED when you make the video. Then, copy and paste the html code. Go to where you post to the blog and press < > option in the menu. Next paste into blog and unclick < >. Your Animoto movie should appear. me if you have questions.
