1 EDGI European Desktop Grid Initiative
Peter Kacsuk (MTA SZTAKI) – Coordinator on behalf of the EDGI consortium

2 The EDGI infrastructure
EDGI scope for both compute and data intensive apps for EMI/EGI (gLite, ARC, Unicore) EDGeS scope only for compute intensive apps for EGEE (glite)

5 Main planned collaborations
EGI organizing grid activities in Europe dissemination desktop grid extension know-how for grid systems Available EDGI applications publishing EDGI middleware in the EGI repository support for the EGI user communities Application porting NGIs extending NGI infrastructures with EDGI services supporting NGI user communities EMI middleware development for maintaining the EDGI bridge for ARC gLite Unicore

6 Dissemination collaboration between EGI and EuroCivis
EuroCivis: European Desktop Grid Federation To disseminate knowledge on Establishing desktop grids Maintaining desktop grids Application development for desktop grids Usage of desktop grids with EGI service grids in an integrated way We expect strong collaboration between EGI and EuroCivis

7 Infrastructure extension collaboration between NGIs and EDGI
EDGI will create a reference EDGI infrastructure NGIs can extend their infrastructure in two ways: Using the EDGI bridge services of the reference EDGI infrastructure Using the EDGI know-how to extend their infrastructure with DGs created by the NGI (e.g. university DGs can extend the SG of an NGI) EDGI will invite as subcontractor three infrastructure providers (could be SG, DG, Cloud provider) We expect dissemination support from EGI and NGIs

8 Collaboration for user support between NGIs and EDGI
EDGI creates an application repository storing validated applications NGI users can access and use these applications EDGI supports NGI users to port their application to the EDGI infrastructure validate them Publish them in the EDGI repository for the whole user community EDGI will invite as subcontractor three user communities to port their applications to the EDGI infrastructure We expect dissemination support from EGI and NGIs

9 Middleware development collaboration between EMI and EDGI
Joint meetings, workshops Joint effort in OGF PGI Develops SG middleware (ARC, gLite, Unicore) EMI EDGI BOINC Xtrem Web OurGrid Develops DG middleware and SG->DG bridge EDGI bridge services Unicore ARC gLite
