Fig. 1 Plasma protein carbonyls in normal and complicated pregnancies (A) and in non-ART and ART pregnancies (B). Malondialdehyde levels in normal and complicated pregnancies (C) and in non-ART and ART pregnancies (D). Graphs represent the mean and SEM. The number of cases in each group is shown between brackets. Statistical analysis was performed with Student's t-test. Fig. 2 Plasma melatonin in normal and complicated pregnancies (A) and in non-ART and ART pregnancies (B). Global antioxidant score (Antiox-S) in normal and complicated pregnancies, including total number and broken down into minor and severe complications (C). Global antioxidant score (Antiox-S) in non-ART and ART pregnancies (D). Graphs represent the mean and SEM. The number of cases in each group is shown between brackets. *p < 0.05 when compared with normal pregnancy group. Statistical analysis was performed with Student's t-test. Fig. 3 Cluster between fruit and vegetable intake, plasma antioxidant score (Antiox-S) and dietary antioxidants (phenolic compounds) (A). Intake levels were categorized as: high (1–2 per day); moderate (3–6 per week) and low (1–2 per week). Cluster between milk intake and plasma melatonin and protein carbonyl levels (Carbonyls) (B). Intake levels were categorized as: high intake (daily) and low intake (weekly). The levels of plasma parameters (carbonyls, melatonin and polyphenols) and Antiox-S were categorized in quartiles. 1° quartile represents the lowest levels (L), 2° and 3° quartile represents medium levels (M) and above the 3° quartile represents high levels (H).
