1. Welcome to 2016 Annual Title I Parent Meeting

2. What is Title I ?
Title I is a federal funded program to assist in the academic achievement of students. Eastern Greene Elementary is a School-wide Title I program, ensuring all students receive essential instruction in reading and math. Students receive small group and/or individual interventions to improve reading and math skills throughout the day.

3. What is Title I funding based upon?
Title I funding is determined by the CPN (Census Poverty Number). The 2010 Census determined how much funding will be allocated to Eastern Greene Schools. The CPN can change each year with the participation and completion of the American Community Survey (ACS) by people in our communities. If you receive the ACS in the three Eastern Greene Townships (Beech Creek, Center, and Jackson) participation is crucial.

4. Who receives Title I services?
Literacy:
Students K-4th are screened 4x’s a year using the Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System(BAS).
This assessment provides teachers an overall snapshot of a child’s reading/comprehension ability. The assessment identifies areas of concern in reaching grade level expectations / goals in reading, writing, fluency, and comprehension.
If a student is not making adequate progress, the student is provided with additional instruction by their Teacher, Title I Coordinator, or Title I Paraprofessional to meet those grade level benchmarks.
Math:
Students during their Math core instruction using a variety of Topic, Unit, and Benchmark Assessments built into the “My Math” Curriculum.
The assessments provide teachers instructional insight into student’s skill strengths and areas of weaknesses. Students not making adequate progress, are provided with additional instruction by their Teacher, Title I Coordinator, or Title I Paraprofessional to meet the grade level benchmarks.

Eastern Greene Elementary School - Parent Compact
Eastern Greene Elementary and the parents of students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A for No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, agree this compact outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards. This school-parent compact is in effect during school year

7. Important Dates for 3rd & 4th grade students IREAD and ISTEP+
3rd and 4th grade students are selected for additional support through various assessment tools.
IREAD – March 13-17, 2017
ISTEP+ – February 27 –March 10, Part #2: April 17 – May 5, 2017.

Reading Level expectations for each grade level
End of Kindergarten: Level C
End of 1st grade: Level I
End of 2nd grade: Level M
End of 3rd grade: Level P
End of 4th grade: Level S

Examples of these Reading Levels can be found on the tables.
Writing Strategies:
Written response with supporting text evidence
Using the Yes Ma’am strategy
Able to produce “First Draft” work within a specific time limit
Math Strategies: – multiple step word problems requiring various skills/strategies to find the solution.
Examples of multiple step word problem:
In Jennifer’s guest room there are brown tables, purple tables, and black tables. There are 4 brown tables. There are 5 times as many purple tables as brown tables, and there are 3 fewer black tables than purple tables. How many tables are there in Jennifer’s guest room?
A pair of earrings costs $9.00 a pair. A package of 3 costs $21. What is the difference in the unit cost? How much do you save if you buy two packages instead of 6 individual pairs?
