Independent Reading Assignments:
Students will have a cross-curricular approach regarding nightly reading activities. Please refer to the your child’s purple folder for nightly reading assignments. The students will be held accountable for their reading through class discussion, activities, questioning, and quizzes. While a final grade will be taken on the student’s AR average over what they are reading both at home and in class, the AR points grade will be different. The students will have a library folder they will be keeping in class where they will record goals, books read, and reading data. This will be used as the second AR grade in place of the AR point grade. The library will still have incentives for students who achieve high AR points. Reading

Spelling and Vocabulary
We use a site called for our vocabulary tests. We are currently evaluating several options for spelling practice and will send an update home when we decide which one will best for our students. Quizlet can be accessed from home via the internet or 4G on a smart phone. We will be sending home the login information within the first weeks of school. Quizlet will also be used for math vocabulary, too! There are vocabulary games that are great review and practice – very helpful! All 3 grade levels will have Latin and Greek roots and affixes to study.
