Meet the Teacher Mrs. Jessie Treadaway
11th Year Teaching in St. Tammany Parish LSU Bachelor of Science – Early Childhood Education Concentration – Birth through Age 8

Mrs. Lachney Originally from Harahan, Louisiana
Moved to Mandeville 14 years ago Married to husband, Michael, for 13 years Have 2 daughters, Aubrey, 4, and Meredith, 18 months Earned Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education 1-5 from Southeastern Louisiana University Earned a Masters of Education in Special Education Mild/Moderate from Northwestern State University of Louisiana This is my 7th year teaching. I have been co-teaching at MES for 4 years and previously taught 3rd grade for 3 years at a private school

More Responsibility Students are responsible for having home folders.
Students are responsible for checking folders and packing all supplies they need. Students are being taught to become more responsible for their own learning. Students are being encouraged to become independent thinkers and learners. GOAL: For all students to become happy and productive life- long learners.

More Writing & Thinking Skills
Students are required to explain their thinking rather than just give an answer. Students will be asked to find evidence in text to support their way of thinking. Students are being taught how to write a well structured paragraph that voices an opinion or explains a topic. GOAL: Write and Think for Life!

Grading Scale This is the first year the students will receive letter grades in Math, Reading, Language, Science, and Social Studies A = B = C = D = F = 66 & below Students will be graded on a variety of activities including at home projects, tests, quizzes, classwork, participation and writing rubrics. Students will receive at least 9 grades in every subject. If I have at least 10 grades in a subject, I will drop the lowest grade.

Grading Scale S and N will be given for Behavior and Work Habits.
Tests Thursdays and Fridays; Quizzes any day that class is ready (to check progress) Student’s graded papers will go home on most Wednesdays. Please review the papers with your child, sign the folder, and send them all back to school. Grades are updated regularly on JPAMS.

Homework 15-20 minutes per night Goal #1: To set up a “homework habit”

Classroom Behavior CHAMPS
Start each day “Ready to Learn” Can clip up and down depending on choices made Can earn Fish Tickets, prizes/treats, and stickers for awesome thinking and great choices!

Consequences Consequences will be decided on an individual basis.
Daily Behavior reports provided only if needed.

Reading Our lessons are based on the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Treasures Collection as well as other resources including 2 novels we will study this year. Weekly Tests are given on vocabulary, comprehension of the weekly story, and an assessment of the skills taught.

Language & Writing Language grades includes a combination of points from Spelling, Writing mechanics, handwriting, and knowledge of language rules. Lessons are based on Write From the Beginning and Thinking Maps

Language & Writing Major focus on writing a well organized paragraph that includes: - Opening Sentence - Closing Sentence - Correct Punctuation - Age-appropriate Spelling Descriptive Language - Transition Words Evidence to Prove Answers - Legible Handwriting with Correct Letter Formations

Math Our lessons are from the Guaranteed Curriculum published by St. Tammany Parish which uses materials from Everyday Counts, My Math, Investigations as well as other resources which use a very hands-on approach. McGraw-Hill My Math- Math 4 Today: Students complete 4 problems a day. It is corrected each day in class and mini lessons are taught according to need. Quizzes are given every Friday and sent home biweekly!

Science & Social Studies

Scholastic News Monthly magazines will supplement Science and Social Studies curriculum Mrs. Stephens has purchased this subscription for EVERY 2nd grade student!!

Snacks & Treats Please let me know at least 48 hours before sending in snacks/treats for the class. We have students who have food allergies and this will give me time to contact the parent to make sure they have an alternative snack if necessary. Party Bags/Snacks sent home – please check carefully!

Parent Conferences Please sign up for a parent conference! If you cannot find a day/time that works with your schedule, please me and we can plan accordingly.
