Scaled scores What is the pass mark? There is no "pass" or "fail" with SATs tests. The aim is to determine whether a child has met the ‘expected standard’. Levels were replaced with scaled scores in A scaled score of 100 will indicate that the child has reached the expected standard whereas a scaled score of 110 or above indicates working at a higher standard. How will scaled scores be worked out? Raw scores are added together for reading (50), GPS (70) and maths (110). The results for all the tests are then used to set the scaled scores. The scaled score will be adjusted slightly each year according to any differences in the difficulty of the test. So, a scaled score of 100 may come from a raw score of 52 one year, but 58 another year, depending on the judged difficulty of the test. This ensures that scaled scores keep their meaning from one year to the next, making it easier to make comparisons.

Preparing your child In school Children are already being prepared. All teachers are very experienced and familiar with SATs expectations. Some children will be attending booster sessions and, as ever, attendance is very important. Homework Please encourage your child to complete this. If there are any difficulties we have homework club at school each lunchtime or ask the class or subject teacher. Revision Little and often. Don’t overdo things.
