Value Proposition Overcoming the many shortcomings of metal halide lighting, the Hydrel M9700C LED in-grade uses the latest LED technology to create a powerful in-grade solution that provides high-quality illumination, long life and significant energy savings.
4
Replacing Metal Halide
Metal halide has been the primary choice for high lumen in-grade applications. It provides: Lots of lumens White-ish light However, it is not without its shortcomings: Short lamp life Poor color consistency Rapid lumen depreciation Difficult to control The New Hydrel M9700C LED in-grade overcomes the deficiencies of metal halide, providing superior illumination that lasts.

7
Replacing Metal Halide
Color Shift As metal halide lamps age, chemical changes occur in the lamp causing shifts in the chromaticity of the light. Starting Color Right out of the box, metal halide lamps can vary in color temperature. Color consistency Metal halide has inconsistent correlated color temperature (CCT) not only over time, but from one luminaire to the next. This creates an effect that few would be proud of.
8
Replacing Metal Halide
The Hydrel M9700 LED in-grade uses LED’s that are tightly “binned” to ensure color consistency from one luminaire to the next. With a chromaticity range within a 3-step MacAdam ellipse, color remains uniform from luminaire to luminaire.
9
Replacing Metal Halide
Color consistency Lumen Depreciation Metal halide lamps lose over 30% of their lumens in the first 6,000 hours. This severe lumen depreciation results in inconsistent illumination across a site. Spot lamp changes compound the situation, ensuring the site will remain inconsistent.

Optical Distributions
An in-grade luminaire illuminates architecture and landscape features without being seen. While the feature is naturally illuminated from above during the day, Hydrel in-grade luminaires allow the lighting designer to light the feature from below at night, creating dramatic effects. The M9700C LED is designed with this in mind; offering six different distributions including a popular wall wash optic. Narrow Spot (NSP) Narrow Flood (NFL) Medium Flood (MFL) Wide Flood (WFL) Wall Wash (WWD) Flood (FL) The M9700C LED has the optical distributions needed to get the light where you want it, creating dramatic effects.

Built for the Ground Up Below grade and ground-mounted is the most demanding application in lighting. Hydrel understands this and makes products suited for the task, for years to come. Built for the Ground Up.
19
So what is flow-through?
Build for the Ground Up With an in-grade, there is one element that has a dramatic effect on it’s life. The Element: Water Its Effects: Severe Where others fail, Hydrel succeeds. Called “flow-through”, Hydrel’s technology harmonizes with water, creating a dependable, long-life product requiring minimal maintenance. So what is flow-through?
20
The Importance of “Flow-Through”
Prior to Hydrel’s revolutionary flow- through technology, in-grades used an unreliable technology, which was prone to condensation and even leaking. By adopting Hydrel’s proven technique of sealing underwater luminaires, flow-through was born, creating effective and reliable in-grade lighting. 14-20 “sealing” screws Uneven compression Debris in screw holes during relamping Stripped screws Large amounts of silicone everywhere
21
The Science of “Flow-Through”
Flow-through design allows water to flow through the product, and into the ground below it. With a rough-in section installed in the ground and a rock or gravel bed below it, water flows into the housing through a vented door assembly on the top, around the internal components, and through the bottom of the luminaire. This is important for 2 reasons: Thermal Management – The electrical connection is isolated in the housing junction box. As the product heats up and cools down, it is not subjected to the unsealing forces of expansion and contraction. Meanwhile, the vented door assembly allows for convection cooling of the components, extending the life of the product. Maintenance – Typical maintenance of in-grade’s requires opening the luminaire, and potentially resealing it. This becomes worry-free, as the product is designed to be opened and easily maintained, keeping the internal components factory sealed. ROUGH-IN SECTION LED MODULE POWER MODULE
