WORKERS for the harvest

The Parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard.
MATTHEW 20:1-14
4
“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard.”
5
THE LANDOWNER’S 1ST ACTION: A Picture of the Kingdom of God.
Assessing the Harvest A Picture of the Kingdom of God.
6
Assessing the Harvest The landowner watches His harvest.
He expects a great harvest of lives. He sees there is need for qualified laborers because He does not want to loose the harvest of the kingdom. He is hiring workers for His harvest now. This is the hiring season.
7
“ He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.”
8
2nd ACTION: Hiring Laborers -Early in the morning he goes out to hire laborers for the harvest. -He finds laborers who are qualified and ready to work. -Labor agreement: 1 denarius per day to work in the vineyard.
9
“About the third hour he went out and saw others standing in the market place doing nothing. He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ So they went.”
10
3nd ACTION: Assessing the work
At the third hour he sees potential laborers for the harvest standing idle in the market place. They were standing inoperative and wasting their time. He hires them to work in His fields. Labor agreement: He will pay them whatever is right.
11
“He went out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour and did the same thing.”
12
Assessing the work again
4th & 5th ACTIONS: Assessing the work again At the sixth hour he goes out again to hire more laborers for the harvest with the same labor agreement. At the ninth hour he does the same thing: he hires laborers and sends them to work in His harvest.
13
“About the eleventh hour he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’ ‘Because no one has hired us’, they answered. He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’
14
Hiring at the eleventh hour
6th ACTION: Hiring at the eleventh hour - At the eleventh hour he goes out again to hire more laborers. - He finds others who had not worked the whole day and are still standing idle because nobody had hired them. - He is surprised that they had not worked at all. - He hires them with the same labor agreement.
15
“When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman,’ Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’
16
“The workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius. So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius.
17
“When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner
“When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. ‘These men who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’
18
“But he answered one of them, ‘Friend, I am not being unfair to you
“But he answered one of them, ‘Friend, I am not being unfair to you. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who was hired last the same as I give you. Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?
19
“So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
20
