2. Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)
The purpose of the Provincial Achievement Testing program is to:
determine if students are learning what they are expected to learn
report to Albertans how well students have achieved provincial standards at given points in their schooling
assist schools, authorities, and the province in monitoring and improving student learning

3. Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)
Written by all Grade 6 and Grade 9 students at the end of the school year.
No longer written by Grade 3 students (the Student Learning Assessments [SLAs] are currently under development).
Two Language Arts exams (part A is Writing; part B is Reading);
One Math exam; [there will be 2 exams in the school year: part A: Number Operations; part B: Number Concepts]
One Social Studies Exam.
One Science exam.

4. Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs)
Results are presented in two categories, and compared to the provincial average:
Acceptable Standard (students receiving a mark of 50% and above)
Standard of Excellence (students receiving a mark of 80% and above)
best interpreted within the context of local quantitative and qualitative information in order to understand a variety of factors that contribute to student achievement

14. Diploma Exams
The Grade 12 Diploma Examinations Program, established in 1984, has three main purposes:
to certify the level of individual student achievement in selected Grade 12 courses
to ensure that province-wide standards of achievement are maintained
to report individual and group results
To receive a high school diploma, students are required to write at least two diploma exams, either English Language Arts 30–1 or English Language Arts 30–2 and either Social Studies 30–1 or Social Studies 30–2.

15. Diploma Exams Written at the end of a semester.
Language Arts 30-1 (or 30-2) has two parts (part A is Written Response; part B is Reading);
Social Studies 30-1 (or 30-2) has two parts (part A is Written Response; part B is Multiple Choice);
Mathematics 30–1 or Mathematics 30–2;
Biology 30;
Chemistry 30;
Physics 30;
Science 30.

16. Diploma Exams
Results are presented in two categories, and compared to the provincial average:
Acceptable Standard (students receiving a mark of 50% and above)
Standard of Excellence (students receiving a mark of 80% and above)
Results are available for the Diploma mark, as well as the combined overall result:
