THE TECHNICAL COLLEGE OF COMMUNICATIONS “NICOLAE VASILESCU KARPEN”
A SHORT PRESENTATION

The name derives from a Romanian engineer, scientist, physicist and inventor. He developed works related to elasticity, thermodynamics, long distance phone calls, electro-chemistry, civil engineering. He is famous for the “perpetual motion machine” which actually generates electricity and which, some say, defies the second principle of thermodynamics. THE NAME

THE HISTORY It came into being in 1969, the 3rd in the country of its type and was meant to prepare specialists in Postal Services, Phones, Radio and Telegraphy. At that time it had just a physics laboratory, 3 workshops for practical studies and 8 classrooms. The name it bears today was received in 2005.

THE DOMAINS Our College offers trainings in Vocational and Theoretical Studies. Thus we prepare specialists in: Technical Studies, Services, Tourism Social Sciences IT.

THE QUALIFICATIONS The specialists that graduate from our College bear the names: IT Technicians Automation Technicians Telecommunication Technicians Auto Electrician Technicians Economic Activities Technicians Hair-Stylists Banqueting Organisers Secretarial Activities Technicians Telecommunication Units and Networks Technicians Power Stations and Networks Foremen Economic Operator- Post masters

Types of Studies Our College offers education to children, teenagers and adults. We have a kindergarten, high-school classes, post-high-school studies and short-term classes for adults. The high-school studies includes 9th to 12th graders. But for those who feel they cannot attend high-school we offer a 2-year vocational school for those who finish the 9th grade and 6 months of practical courses for those who finish 10th grade. After these they can either return to high-school or go to work in the qualification they have finished.

Economic partners Our college has partnerships with the Local Authorities, NGOs, The Postal Services, the National Agency of Job Placement and various companies who help us with the training of our students. There are Beautician Salons, IT companies, Service Companies, that accept our students and give them training during their school year and thus contribute to their acquiring the necessary skills to successfully obtain their qualification.

THE AWARDS Our College has won The European School Title twice, in 2007 and 2012 The Eco School Title in 2012 The World Record registered by Guiness World Records for “ The largest number of spinning-tops spun simultaneously” in 2009

TODAY The school has now 6 main buildings, 2 for high-school (with classrooms, 9 theoretical laboratories, 3 IT laboratories, a laboratory for e- learning, 2 laboratories for economic studies, 2 laboratories for hair-styling, 5 laboratories for Technical Studies, 2 workshops, a TV station, a Radio station), a dorm, a cafeteria, a gym, a kindergarten and a Technical Museum.
