8 Ethos & Relationships Our ethos is one of…
Learning,       Happiness,    Aspiration We aim to prepare our children for their future by teaching them to see the importance of trying new things, working hard, concentrating, pushing yourself, imagination, improving, understanding others and not giving up. We achieve this through an exciting, creative and dynamic curriculum where effort is valued, progress recognised and success rewarded. The relationship between home and the Academy is essential so that we can achieve the very best for your child. Teachers are available to deal with short queries at the end of the school day. However, if your query requires a more lengthy discussion it is always best to make arrangements to meet your child’s teacher at a mutually convenient time. If you have concerns whilst your child is at Lace Hill Academy, please contact us straight away, the sooner an issue is raised, the sooner we can resolve it. There is an expectation that parents will pay for the cost of repairs of damage to Academy property as a result of their child’s misbehaviour including damaged reading/library books that go home.

12 Caring for your child Should your child be unwell and unable to come to school, please contact the Academy before 8:30am, by phoning the Academy main office – you can leave a message. We cannot accept s or text messages to inform of absence. If your child has vomited or has diarrhoea, they must not return to school until 48 hours after the last episode. If your child has had another illness e.g. chicken pocks please contact the Academy office for advice. Children who need an inhaler whilst at school should bring two inhalers to the Academy office, both clearly marked with their name and in the original packaging provided by the pharmacist. You will need to complete a Health Care Plan which will be referred to in the event of an emergency and you are required to update this on an annual basis or as your child’s health needs change. We are unable to administer prescription drugs within the school setting unless the medicine is to be given 4 times per day. The prescribed medicine must be handed into the Academy main office in a clearly labelled small cool bag. A permission form must be completed by the child’s parent. If your child has a severe allergy that requires an Epipen or requires other prescribed drugs/medicines on a regular basis e.g. Insulin, please contact the Academy main office for further information. If your child requires sun cream during the summer, you should apply it at home before they arrive at school. This is particularly important for the Nursery and Reception years, as part of their day is spent outside. All pupils require sunhats (red) so they are protected during outdoor play. No sunglasses can be worn except prescription sunglasses. If your child receives first aid in school you will be notified via . If they have a head bump you will also receive a phone call – we may leave a message if unable to make contact. In the case of a serious incident we will always telephone to speak to someone, starting with priority one contact.

13 Lunches, Snacks & Drinks
All children in Reception and KS1 are eligible for a complementary hot school meal, irrespective of family circumstances. We encourage all children to take up this option. It is essential that menu choices are submitted each half term and at least one week before the meal is required as this allows the kitchen to organise the meals required in good time. If you wish your child to bring a packed lunch, please remember that the Academy promotes healthy eating and therefore items such as crisps, chocolate, sweets or fizzy drinks etc. should not be included in the lunch box. We also operate a strict no nut, policy including chocolate spreads. A fruit or vegetable snack is supplied free of charge at break time each day for children in Reception and KS1. Pupils in other year groups may bring their own pieces of fruit or vegetable as a mid-morning snack. Children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day as part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Drinking water may be brought to the Academy in clear plastic bottles only. The bottles must be named and taken into the classroom each day.

14 Uniform We expect our children to wear the Academy uniform at all times unless informed by us. Parents are asked to ensure that all clothing is named so that lost items can be quickly returned to their owner. Children are not allowed to wear jewellery except one pair of the smallest stud earrings worn one in each ear. These must not be worn on PE days. A small analogue watch may be worn be school. Nail varnish or any other form of make-up is not allowed to be worn in the Academy at any time. Please ensure that all hair is of a modest style and that long hair is tied back at all times. Any hair clips or hair accessories must be in school colours. Please do not put any keyrings on book bags – the school will provide a suitable key ring for identification purposes. PE bags need to be off the drawstring variety so they can be neatly hung on the pegs – no rucksacks or carrier bags.

15 Travel Wherever possible, we ask that you walk your child into school.
There are a few parking spaces outside the Academy, please do not use the staff car park or coach bay outside Nursery entrance. There is a designated ‘Drop off Zone’ around the roundabout outside the main entrance.

16 Leave of Absence (Holidays)
Attendance 98% This equates to less than 4 days off per child per year. 100% will be rewarded Leave of Absence (Holidays) Family holidays are expected to be taken during school holidays and not during term time. You must request any ‘leave of absence’ using the appropriate form, giving full details of the reason for your request. Leave of absence may be granted in exceptional circumstances. If your request for ‘leave of absence’ is declined and you decide to take your child out of school during those dates, this will result in your child’s absence being marked in the register as ‘unauthorised’ and a fine may be imposed by the Local Authority.
