Flooding due to Drainage Issues
Investigation and remediation of: Property Flooding Home Flooding In addition to flood risks associated with stream level rise, adverse drainage conditions pose flood risks for property owners. Lack of positive drainage; collapsed or blocked storm drain inlets, pipes and outlets; excessive overland flow volumes etc. could result in property flooding or home flooding The Sustainable Initiatives Division (SID) responds to citizen complaints regarding drainage problems on private properties. Drainage complaints range in nature from private property flooding to home flooding and include such concerns as erosion and problems associated with sump pump discharges. Groundwater-associated problems are investigated with remedial actions suggested for homeowners, along with the provision of a residential drainage manual. SID investigates an average of 500 complaints per year, some of which evolve into corrective projects. Projects are initiated each year as a result of either homeowner complaints, referrals by other agencies, or requests by County Council Members.
