Standards for Accreditation for Oklahoma Schools
Standard VI Student Services OAC 210: (c) 4 Counseling and guidance services shall be coordinated and shall work cooperatively with other school staff, community resources, and other educational entities. Additional Standards for CareerTech/ Comprehensive Secondary Schools OAC 210: (a) (3) The technology center guidance staff coordinates services with guidance and counseling staff from partner schools, higher education institutions, and other agencies through planned informational meetings, correspondence, and /or other communications. (c) The sending school guidance program shall complement and coordinate with those services available in the technology center counseling, assessment, staff consulting, educational and occupational planning, and follow-up activities.

SB 1269 – College and Career Endorsement
A student may earn a college and career endorsement by satisfying the curriculum requirements in any of the following categories: STEM, Business and industry, Public services, Arts and humanities, Multidisciplinary studies, or Any other area of study as determined by the State Board of Education SDE, ODCTE, OSRHE will specify the curriculum requirements for each endorsement. CareerTech courses can qualify (SBE discretion) Effective Nov. 1, 2016

AIM Act of 2016 (HS 2535) Creates the Apprenticeships, Internships, and Mentorships (AIM) Act of 2016. Authorizes the governing body of each public, private, magnet, charter, or virtual school to enter into an agreement with private or public organizations for the purpose of creating apprenticeships, internship, and mentorship programs for high school juniors and seniors beginning in the school year.

Steps to begin program suppport
Develop a diverse advisory team. Counselors- vertical and postsecondary, Administration, Parents, Teachers, Business, Community Leaders Attend training on OK Career Guide and share best practices. Attend Professional Development on career pathways and research best practices.

Steps to begin direct services to students
Assess students student attitude, skills, or knowledge about their career interests through surveys. Pre and post data will help to show how students are impacted by your program activities. Use resources available to provide students with interpretation of career pathways. OK Career Guide, Pre-Act, etc. Document your planning and improvements, report out at advisory. Take it one step at a time.
