1 Stats day 7 Final Chapter 3 Day

2 SILENT DO NOW ON DESK: Study Problems: Chapter 2 #12, 15
ACT half sheet 10 min

3 Practice: A study was done to compare high school football and soccer players. The following data was collected: Sport GPA Have a Job? Other Extra Curriculars? Football 4.0 Y N Soccer 3.8 3.2 2.6 3.4 2.2 2.4 3.0 2.0 3.1

4 Poster Projects Chapter 3 summary
Use the class data to analyze class trends Note: you may need to change quantitative data to categorical data by grouping Create an easy to follow poster with a partner with the following categorical data displays: 1) Relative frequency table (with count and %) 2) Bar chart 3) Pie chart 4) Contingency table (choose something interesting) 5) Segmented bar chart 6) a sentence about the contingency table/segmented bar chart describing the trend and association of the variables (independence) 7) a sentence each describing a marginal distribution and a conditional distribution Label graphs appropriately!

5 Homework Finish posters Study Chapter 2/3 Quiz
assessment of tables/graphs understanding Study Chapter 2/3 Quiz 5Ws + H Identify each variable as Categorical Or Quantitative Reading Contingency Tables Percentages, marginal dist, conditional dist, independence

6 Quantitative data displays
Stats day 8 Quantitative data displays

7 SILENT DO NOW ON DESK: Posters DO NOW:
Prep for Quiz- check practice WS with key 10 min

8 Objective SWBAT show mastery in understanding context, distinguishing between quantitative and categorical data, and reading contingency tables SWBAT identify, read, and create the four quantitative displays/graphs

9 Quiz 20 min

10 Independence and Distribution Review
Refer to your data table of quiz scores Let’s make/report 1) a contingency table 2) a marginal distribution 3) a conditional distribution 4) variable dependence Right now, we know how to make this into a graph…how would you make this into a graph? What graph would you use??

11 Data Displays Refer back to your quiz score data…
If I want to create a display of just your scores, how would I do that? Note: what type of data are we presenting? Categorical or quantitative?

12 Displaying Quantitative Data
1) stem and leaf 2) dot plot 3) histogram Relative frequency histogram 4) time plot

13 Stem and Leaf

14 Stem and Leaf If I told you that this was the amount of time students took to solve math problems: 16,50,54,42,45,43,20 22,31,55,30,34,56,25 How would you display this with stem and leaf?

15 Use Quiz Data Make a stem and leaf chart of the class quiz data

16 Dot Plot Essentially a bar chart…
Now make a dot plot for the quiz grades of this class…

17 Histogram frequency and relative frequency
nlk NOW MAKE A HISTOGRAM OF YOUR CLASS QUIZ SCORES

18 Making a dot plot or Histogram
Vertical axis: ALWAYS FREQUENCY (or relative frequency- %s) Horizontal axis: ALWAYS NUMBER LINE Determine the range of values for axes Determine the bin width Add a dot or bar height according to data!

19 Time Plot

20 BEST USED TO SHOW QUANTITATIVE DATA OVER
LINE GRAPHS BEST USED TO SHOW QUANTITATIVE DATA OVER TIME

21 Practice-RACE We are going to practice displaying data.
You will each receive a page of problems with data. Everyone will begin with problem one. Everyone will be told the first task (a certain type of graph) to perform with the data of problem one. When you finish the task, raise your hand to be checked and get your task for the second problem with a different set of data…and so on As soon as you receive the next task you may begin that task. The first to complete all tasks, wins. Work INDIVIDUALLY and SILENTLY

22 Homework Chapter 4 #11,12,14,19,21,34,35 A ONLY (just make graph)
