On 15th November 2017, on the 50th anniversary of the MCA, we are holding a symposium on Alcohol and Medicine; past, present and future at BMA house in London. We are delighted to have world class speakers covering the key areas of alcohol related harm and effective management. During the day there will talks by leaders in their fields on the liver, on medical treatments, on psychological therapies and on neuropsychiatric approaches in relation to alcohol. A unifying and unique feature of the MCA symposium is its appeal across specialties and across disciplines, to practioners, researchers and students. It is a fantastic opportunity for members and non members to meet, network and engage with exhibitors from medical charities, pharmaceutical companies, publishers and NHS trusts. 3 Who are the MCA? The MCA is an independent charity of health professionals from all medical specialities, without funding from the alcohol industry. We are dedicated to improving the understanding and management of alcohol-related health harm. See you in london In 2017, the MCA Symposium will take place at the BMA House. The BMA is the perfect location situated in the centre of London. We have booked the Great Hall for the lectures and the Lutyens Suite where all refreshments will be served which should result in a easy and effective footfall from the lecture theatre to the exhibition hall. The BMA has an excellent events team and fabulous catering facilities. There are many transport links from Euston and Kings Cross train station as well as being near to Russell Square tube station. 7 DELEGATES The MCA holds its symposium in London every year and numbers of delegates keep increasing year on year. This year we have changed venues to accommodate this increase and hope to have between 150 – 250 delegates. Our delegates come mainly from the England and Wales but we do attract 10% of delegates from Scotland, Northern Ireland and 2% from abroad. We hope to increase attendance this year by having a range of different specialist speakers as well as an interesting and relevant topic in the present political climate. Based on 2016 figures we tend to have 43% of delegates from specialist medical backgrounds and 41% from nursing backgrounds and 15% from other medical backgrounds. We have a membership body of 180 people of which 60% attend our events regularly. A booking is only confirmed when accepted by the MCA PAYMENT TERMS: Exhibitors must pay the balance in full 30 days prior to the event CANCELLATION: All cancellations must be made prior to 60 days before the event or will incur a 50% cancellation fee AMENDMENT OF FLOOR PLAN: While every endeavour is made to retain the published plan of the exhibition, the MCA or RCS shall be entitled to vary the layout if it believes such variation to be in the general best interests of the delegates SECURITY & INSURANCE: Exhibitors need to take out their own insurance against accidental damage, loss or theft ACCESS & STAND DISPLAYS: Delivery of stands and marketing materials is via BMA House. They are open between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday – Full postal address is BMA House, Tavistock Square, Kings Cross, London, WC1H 9JP. If exhibitors need to drop off stands the day before this can be done via the Portugal Street entrance anytime prior to 5pm. Stands/boxes must be marked clearly with the Company name, Event date, Event Title and marked for the attention of the Events Department. Stands must be kept well away from any paintings and chairs must be placed behind stands to prevent them toppling onto paintings Exhibitors should bring their own extension leads as there is no guarantee any can be provided on the day. Power is single socket 13 amp only STAND PICKUP: Equipment that has been left post-event for courier collection must be well sealed and labelled and accompanied by a completed Courier Collection form as attached, to reduce the risk of return errors DELEGATE NUMBERS: Whilst the MCA will make every effort to secure a high level of attendance of delegates, there can be no guarantee of delegate numbers and no discounts or refunds are available if delegate numbers do not reach the projected numbers
