1 Newsletter - Week Commencing 1st September 2014
As we commence the new school year I would like to extend a warm welcome to everyone – staff, pupils and parents. I would especially like to welcome our new pupils. We hope they will be happy in Orchard Fields Community School. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know you all in the coming weeks. Mrs Dawn Shilston (Head Teacher) New Staff We are delighted to welcome Miss Adele Godsil (Year 1 Teacher), Mrs Sarah Bradford (Year 3 Teacher), Mrs Patricia Gisevicius (Key Stage 2 Intervention Teacher) and Mr James Delarue (Year 5 Teacher) as new members of our teaching staff this year. School Clubs Clubs will commence on Monday 15th September if you require any information or you wish to cancel a place on a club please inform the class teacher in the first instance. School Meals The cost of School Meals is £2.10 per day. Forms for free school meals are available in the School Office. If you feel you may be entitled please make your application as soon as possible. This also covers Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Pupils. The more pupils registered, the more funding the school receives. If your child is eligible for free school meals, even if they do not intend to take them, please ensure that you still register them. Photographs of Pupils (still and video) From time to time our pupils have photographs taken for local newspapers and/or our web site e.g. concerts, fairs, achievements, sports. We respect the right of parents for children not to be photographed. Please complete the Parent Consent letter if not already done so and return to the school office if you do not wish your child to be photographed. Breakfast Club All parents who wish their child to attend Breakfast Club must firstly complete an application form, which then must be returned to the school office. Breakfast Club will open at 8.20am and close at 8.30am, please ensure you accompany your child to the school reception, where the children will then be shown in to the hall. 2 Attendance at School (Absences) Please contact the school or call at the office to inform us if your child is going to be absent from school by 9am each day. Our phone is ‘manned’ from 8.00 am each morning ( ). Please avoid taking medical appointments in school time. If it cannot be avoided then please provide an appointment card to the school office. Attendance Last week our overall school attendance was 95.45%, nearly at our target of 96%! Well done to Mrs Foreman, Mr Delarue, and Miss Kennedy’s classes for achieving the best attendance. They all got 100% attendance! Unfortunately, we had 14 children arrive late to school! This is disappointing but hopefully this will improve next week. Keep an eye out for a letter about attendance and punctuality expectations, processes, procedures and prizes! Road Safety We again remind drivers and pedestrians of the need for extreme caution at the front of the school. Please drive very slowly and cross with care. PE Please ensure that PE kit is brought into school on Monday and is then collected on Friday, in the event that a PE lesson has to be swapped to a different day then PE kit is available.
